Nice to hear your not bailing out Nate! I think you had everybody a bit dazed abd confused with the post on another thread.

Some good suggestions here. But Razz, cutting back on JD (Jack Daniels, not Jerry Duvinsky), now that's aski ng too much:)

I have now shortened my halide duration to 7 hrs/day (down from 10 hrs per day) with no ill effects that I can see, In fact, I'd say that growth has accelerated but of course that is very subjective. I have also been selling large colonies so maybe there is less competition for calcium and nutrients. But certainly no harm has been done. I will soon shoot for 6 hrs. per day. I do still keep my vho's on for about 11 hrs but may soon knock that down some. I have noticed some (not huge) savings on my NYSEG bill.

With part of nyseg being bought by that foreign company our rates are "subposed " to go down.My bill last month was only 125.00 compared to over 300.00 last month,so I guess time will tell

I removed 950 watts of lighting by changing my 400 watters to 250 watts, turning off my 250 watt on my Q tank, empty most of the time and lighting my frag tank with a single 250 watter rather than two by getting rid of frags.
I also make a water change every two weeks rather than every week.
Corals are doing fine (Even more color).

Looked up nyseg buy out and this is what I found hope the link works

Iberdrola agrees to terms for buyout of Energy East
$275 million credit will benefit customers of NYSEG and RG&E

humm interesting it came from Buff news...they dont even have NYSEG...lol...but interesting none the less.

A month ago, I have not seen the new bill but I expect to save about $35.00 a month in power, enough to pay back the new ballasts in under a year. On water changes I was using a bucket a month so I expect to save about another $25.00 a month by stretching the bucket to two months.

cool. i down graded to a 22g CAD...lol... i should be down about 70$ or more a month in electric....lol...

Well I have moved forward with my plan to reduce my electricity bill and I must say things so far have been coming out nicely. I am not done with the move but I have reduced my amount of tanks from 5 to 2 and it is soon to be 1! I thought I would be more sad than I am about it but the 1 tank I am keeping is turning out really nice so I am actually much more excited than sad. I will post pictures in a few weeks once things settle in and I am finished with the move. :D

Looking forward to the pics Nate, From what I saw already it looks like it will be terrific. Looks like some folks here are triiming down display size and number. That will make for lower bills, and decreased energy consumption (thus lowered varbon footprint). Less can be more!

Lower carbon footprint? :crazy1:

It will save money for sure! My bill almost doubled recently. I need to switch providers or something.

I'm conteplating taking down my 20 G softie tank in an attempt to save time and money if anyone is interested. Double maintenance is a drag.
