Considering a new species

I am looking for more information on the hippocampus semispinosous. I have done the typical Google search with basic wild information nothing really about home aquaria. I have found a few aquacultured available locally. I can't find many photos for positive identification. I understand the risk of walking in almost blind but I am willing to give it a go if I can get just a little more information on the species they are claiming they are. You never know unless you try. I have been going crazy trying to do the research before a buy.

Tank temp? 68°F good?
Personality?
How they do in our species only tanks.
Cool other tidbits of info.

I've been in the seahorse hobby now for about 14 years and haven't come across this species in the hobby.
To compare what you are buying with what their description is, go to page 76 H. spinosissimus as I haven't found the species semispinosous in the guide but suspect it may be the same.

It would be interesting to know where they got the broodstock from.

I was thinking the same. I am kind of interested in getting them just because I want to see the difference in personality and tank behavior.

Does your source have photos of their stock? There is no guaranty they have the species they say they do as most places are not good at IDing seahorse species. Never seen these guys in the hobby before.

Yes. They were send to a friend, we are both looking at them. They are a little odd looking but pretty bland. Things look out of proportion compared to common ponies we see (kuda reidi and erectus.) They jury is still out if I really want to go for it.

They claim half spine, anyone want to confirm?

Their tails look 30% longer than erectus I have the same size. They are eating frozen some but I also got Reidi and they are eating live so we may have taken a step back but I only have the one quarantine, I am not giving up my hospital tank because that's when I will have a problem... So frozen and live being fed. I know the color is bland but the tails make them elegant.

On another note I am looking for CB Reidi and/or Comes if anyone has any private leads, seahorse source and Ocean rider don't seem to have much in stock.

I recently picked one up labelled as an H. histrix, which it was not.
Took me a while to figure out what it is.
Anyhow, Ray - I'm in your neck of the woods - if you're interested, let me know.

I made a mistake - I believe mine to be H. spinosissimus, not H. semispinosus...
