Controllers...

Hey everyone i'm in need of a temp controller for my heaters and chiller but i was finding that they're around 150-200 so i was thinking i might as well get a controller. Was looking at the reefkeeper 2 and aquacontroller 3. I like how the ac 3 can be hooked up to the internet and data logging but not sure of how much more i would have to buy to start using it (i.e. DC8, probes, Etc.)and its around 400. The reefkeeper is around 250-300 comes with a DC8 but not sure if it can be hooked up to the internet. What have you all used/ liked? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
james

There's seems to be a group buy going for neptune products. Keep an eye out. I like my ac2, but wished I had a dc8, since x10 modules aren't as reliable. I don't bother with the computer hookup.

I think the RK2 is more fairly compared to the acjr than ac3. Looking RK2 to ACjr, both running about the same price once outftted with control outlets etc.:

RK2: Aesthetically pleasing.

ACjr: Better programmability. Interfaces with your PC.

I have the JR with the serial port, but I have not hooked it up to my computer. The DC 8 is nice. I am only using it for a few things; basically my lights and heater. I might hook up my chiller to it, but my ranco has treated me well for that purpose.

I could not justify the extra money on the bigger model as I do not need all the bells and whistles for my system.

hey thanks for the input. Looking at it again i think the ACjr is exactly what i need. So can this one control ph along with temp?

Temp- yes. How do you plan on controlling the PH? I use my PH probe just to let me know where it is. HTH

Not sure exactly. I just saw on marine depot that said it controls PH. I will prob. be dosing and top off w/ kalk. I was thinkinmg maybe to shut off my top off if theres a problem and ph gets too high? does this make sense? also i might add a calcium reactor in the future so to control my solenoid

Ok, I just wanted to see what your ideas were. I like knowing what my PH swings on a daily basis and that is the greatest comfort I have found from the PH probe. It does allow you to turn things on or off depending on your tanks PH, I just have never got that far into programming it. I use a ph monitor for the control of my solenoid.

How do you use a pH monitor to control your solenoid? My old monitor, that I sold to ScubaJim, didn't have an output for control. You had to upgrade to the pinpoint or milwakee controllers or the AC products as far as I was aware.

In order to control the ph, it needs to be a ph controller, as opposed to a ph monitor like you were selling I believe.

My solenoid turns on when the PH hits 6.6 inside of my reactor. That is what keeps my CA reactor dialed in; sometimes that is;)

I know it does need to be a controller to control PH and i realize the monitor i bought from pete can only tell me what my ph is and not control anything. My question was if the ACjr can actually do both control PH and temp at the same time. I'm still debating whether or not to get the ACjr or AC3 so far the only differnce i see is the Control and monitoring of ORP by the AC3

To be honest Jim, I am not sure as I am not the best at that kind of stuff. I would ask on the neptune forum here on RC. There are a lot more knowledgeable people over there than I am.

Yes it can. I have one and use it to control both. The limit on the Jr. vs a III or III Pro is that it can only control based upon 1 pH probe, not 2 (1 in the tank and one in the CA reactor).

thanks pete thats exactly what i needed to know. I did end up going to the neptune forum and they pointed me to the neptune website which is probaly where i should have gone in the first place:p thanks
