I have had my convict for a couple months now. He took to nori real quick in qt. He is now the "football" shape 
. And is doing great in my 5'x30" tank. He took to pellets pretty quick once he got in the dt, and after a month or 2 he started eating frozen as well. I passed over a bunch of tiny thin ones before I found a small/medium one that had some weight on it at the lfs.

And that is one of the least of your worries. You are playing with fire by not QT'ing fish. Velvet and brook are almost always fatal by the time you realize what is happening.
U should try to qT atleast by profalctic methods and PP for internal parasites. That way if a fish dies at least it was in QT and not the DT

Give it a shot. They are an easy fish to keep IME.
Same protocol for QT as any other tang.....
Watch for ich, watch for intestinal worms, and watch for gill flukes.
30 days in a QT, and treat what symptoms show up.
Throw nori in the tank on a clip once per day and stand back....
After 30 days of no symptoms, throw them in the display.
They are among the smallest of the Acanthurus family, but will fight with other acanthurus tangs so keep that in mind if you have a Powder Blue, Powder Brown, or an Achilles....(or any of the other Acanthurus tangs).
They are a neat fish.

thinking about adding one to a 180 gallon.
in the 180 gallon I already have a yellow tang and a powder blue tang, do yall think this would be a problem?
