Cool Fish on Diver's Den

I searched "kole tang juvenile" and found pictures that looked just like that. It also has the "scribble" pattern that Kole Tangs generally have.

I'm so excited to see ORA Bettas again! I figured they gave up on them!

They are actually not too difficult to breed. It just seems they are not very popular these days. And why spend time on breeding nice fish when you can make so much more money with deformed feeder fish.

I would hope they also pick up breeding the Eastern Hulafish (Trachinops taeniatus) again one day.

Do you know how difficult they (Marine Bettas) are to pair up? I have two tanks so I could theoretically move one to the other tank if they don't get along.. problem is my second tank has a bunch of cleaner shrimp.

I have a none ORA marine betta for 2 years now. There are blood shrimps, skunk, cleaner, and sexy shrimps in the tank. the Betta hunted down all the sexies, but left the other big shrimps alone

Since there is no bonding required they are easy to "pair" if you can tell males from females.
I put 3 pairs together and all were spawning within a month.

I really wish I could get one of these guys. The Hawaiian ones are really cool.

What type of eel is it and how large does it get?

Regarding Beta's - what is the typical size? They have always been on my "wish list" and very affordable. Even ORA's. For some reason I thought they tend to hide more in the day or in the darker areas of the tank. And I thought somewhat unfriendly towards shrimp?

I could be mixing the Beta up with a different fish though.

The eel, I believe is a golden dwarf moray eel and from my research they only get about a foot in length (12 inches)

For the betta, I heard they get around 8 inches but I could be wrong. In my experience, bettas will typically hide during the day and stay in the shadows. since my tank had fast moving fish, I knew I would have trouble feeding the betta. So I placed it in an acclimation box and it lurked to come eat out of a turkey baster. So now when it sees the baster it comes out of the shadows to eat. Also after the amount of time that I had the betta it became braver and mostly stayed out in the open.

Does the betta typically just hover in one spot or move around the tank some?

Mine usually hovered in one spot. They do look quite nice when they come out of the shadows though. The white dots on the fish against the black color body is really unique.

Mine usually hangs out in one area of the tank... it rarely cruises the tank (that's the Mystery Wrasse's job). I've had (him?) for about a year and a half but I think he's much older. I got him from Vivid Aquariums after someone had returned him.

His body is about three inches long but with his fully extended tail closer to 4.5 / 5 inches. When I feed the tank I have to 'hide' from him as he expects to be hand fed so he follows me around. If I hide then he reluctantly eats from the water... he eats frozen and the occasional flakes I throw in.

Was thinking of getting another one as I like them so much but I'm concerned about pairing. Here are some shots I took before breakfast.

That looks like a female to me. You could add a larger male, or another female of slightly different size. Though with another female you will get some ruffled fins until they worked out a hierarchy.

I've got one and its totally worth it. My golden dwarf is one of my favorite fish. Hes begun to warm up to the tank and comes out quite a bit or at least always is poking his head out.
