Cool little project at Dyersburg Primary school.

I am going to be putting in a 24g nano cube in a 2nd grade classroom. Im doing it for my daughters class I think that this will be fun for the kids and also educational. I need to find some fully cured encrusted rock to use with no aptasia. I have rock but none of it is cured yet. Anyone have any stocking suggestions
so far I plan on a pair of false perc's of course but other than that I open to suggestions.

I think that is a great idea that you are working on. I would really like to see the club as a whole get involved with projects like that in schools.

It would be neat to have a bunch of "satellite junior reef clubs" for our club in all of the surrounding school systems.

We could make the kids that were envolved in the project, "junior reef club members for no charge untill they were 15 or something"

Be a great way to promote the club and the hobby as a whole, and post pictures of the kids and there aquariums on our club site.

All the kids are so stoked about it even the teachers , this whole project will be done at my expense so I cant go to overboard. . I want to do something a little different with this tank. I havent figured out what I doing yet so feel free to offer your suggestions.

What a wonderful idea!! I think a goby/pistol pair would be awesome for the kids.

I don't have any rock, but give me shout when you're ready and I'm sure I can set you up with some coral.

I have about 20 lbs or so of live rock that you can have. It doesn't have any aptasia but probably does have just a little bit of algae.

Hey, just to let you know, I started up one in my 2nd grade room last year and everyone loved it. I had kids coming by before and after school to check it out. Mine however didn't go so well, the heater got stuck on a couple of days before coming back from spring break and then someone turned the lights on and left them on continually the first week of summer killing the rock, snails and hermits. Im going to try to set it back up this year though. I'm at Hayti by the way.

WOW that sucks. Im sorry to hear that. I will be using a coralife timer and a very small heater if any. I will be upgrading the pump siqnificantly and that addes a few degrees If its like the nano I have at my house It wont need a heater at all. Hayti is not to far from me at all, I live in newbern Tn just east of Dyersburg.

I wouldnt think that leaving the light on for a week would kill everything, now the heater getting stuck will do the trick everytime!

well I got the tank installed tuesday. Man these kids are going nuts for this tank. Wednesday I added a cleanup crew and a pair of false perc's. I have had to do a question and answer session for all the kids and teachers. The kids have named the clowns. Diamond for the female and nemocena for the maleThey named the male after a cross between nemo and john cena the wrestler, I thought that was pretty funny. I will post some pic's as soon as I figure out how. I know, Im computer retarded.

Hey guys I want to add a shrimp goby pair but I dont know alot about them. I just got a flaming prawn goby in and a purple claw pistol shrimp. Will they pair up?

Well I added a Tiny regal tang its the size of a dime. yeah I know it will only be in there a few months till it gets a little bigger. I also added a royal gramma. Man its bad when your the only one posting in your thread.
