Dardanus pedunculatus I believe....not reefsafe for sure but it is a decent companion thus far for the mantis.

Evidently, when it outrows its shell and finds a new one like most hermits, this one plucks the anemones off and affixes them to the new shell. A true commensal relationship here as the 'nems protect the hermit and the nems eat the floating scraps that drift away from the crab while eating.

Cool stuff!!!

Definitely very cool relationship but do you really want those aiptaisia's running rampant in your aquarium? Thats what those are right?

Def. not aipts! When closed they look very similar to a min carpet 'nem. Also like I stated not reefsafe....IMO the crab would eat anything it could catch and you're right the 'nems would be basically stingers on the move lol.

The only inhabitants in this 10g are the crab and a mantis.

Could use some of those anemones on the side of my daughter's high chair..... She eats like Cookie Monster...NAM NAM NAM NAM NAM. Don't know where she get's it from.

Oh, but I digress. Cool Critter!

Ha!!!

I think the small dog I heard barking the day I picked the sump up should work just as well...you can't tell me that pooch hasn't claimed the area under the high chair as its own lol.

Thx Gary....sometime I will learn to take pics with our p&s instead of my phone.

Dan10342 came over once and in 30 seconds was taking really good macro shots with our basic Kodak Z1012 IS lol...he was manipulating those buttons like a 16yr old with a Playstation ;)
