Coolest, rarest, reef safe, wrasse?

Pick a reef safe wrasse that you like because rarity is only a bonus to the fish's beauty/looks IMO. IMO, a linespot or blue flasher beats most wrasses and they aren't all that rare. Sure I still like the rare wrasses like johnosni or bellae, but you can't beat the linespot or blue in my mind.

No need to go for the rarest or most expensive. Many of the most spectacular wrasses are common, reef friendly and relatively affordable. My two favorites so far are Melanurus and tricolor. Both are common, affordable, easy to take care of and available.

Then again you only live once. If you have access to your dream fish and can afford it go for it. Share pics though please:frog:

rare, yes but if it were a common wrasse it would be a cheaper one due to its lack of coloration compared to some others. And to the OP, why don't you do a reef save wrasse search and look at the pics only not the price. Find one you like and then do some research. I have both rare wrasses and common ones. The reason for some of the common ones is because of the coloring.

c. claire or if you want to get unheard of crazy c. walandi or c blatteaus.(sorry for the spelling a few too many brews)

You don't mention if you have a cover for top of your tank. I would suggest building one if you don't have one. You can get 1/4 mesh netting from the bulk supply co. or other vendors and go to homer depot or lowes or from BRS get the screen kit and build some screen covers. A large number of wrasse will jump. No need to buy a fancy wrasee only to have it carpet-surf. I would also get some egg crate and make covers for overflows so you don't have to get wrasse out if jumps in.

Start with the "reef safe" and find one that is appealing to you. It may just be one that doesn't cost as much.

Your question is framed too broadly. If I was to honestly answer it, you'd get a recommendation which would cost you thousands and you'd spend 1-2 years waiting/looking for.

What sort of budget do you have in mind and how readily available of a species are you looking for?
