Copper and quarantine

So I got a purple tang from a very trusted lfs. I've tried Ttm but it's very labour intensive so I'm going to try copper. However my lfs that I trust runs full copper and prazi and hypo. When I bring home a fish that's been there for 2 weeks under this sort of treatment should I continue that when I get home meaning dose my qt with copper or should I just observe from this point on to see if I see signs of disease etc until I put him in my dt?

Because copper is as toxic as it is, I prefer to not treat with it at all. I understand that TTM is a bit more work, but in the long run your fish will be happier and healthier for it.

In any case, I would observe first and see.

I understand but when I brought home the purple tang and I had the intention of doing ttm and put him in a 10 gallon he did not like it at all. Was not eating didn't look happy. Put him in a 20 gallon and he was eating right away and you can tell he's more comfortable. I can't imagine doing ttm with 20 gallon tanks.

A purple tang is one fish I would not let near my DT without a month long QT. I would never trust a store to treat your fish. Too many things can go wrong in a store to introduce parasites during their Qt period: new fish, nets, etc. I would suggest a 5 minute fresh water dip and continue to observe his skin and breathing for a month before moving him into your larger DT. Good luck

You can do TTM with the 20g and a single 5g bucket. Just use the 5g bucket as a very temporary holding tank as you drain, clean, and refill the 20. I do it that way just because I only have 1 spare tank, and limited space. I can complete the transfer in all of 20 minutes.

So i'd be able to do the TTM with a 10 gallon and a 20 gallon? i'd rather just use the tanks i already have. Unfortunately they are different sizes.

sure. Just use the 10 as a very short term holding tank while you clean and refill the 20. It's a bit more of a pia because you have more of a time constraint, but it can be done. I just have enough water made up so that I can transfer the fish from the 20 to a 5g bucket, and using the same water supply as I used for the 5g, fill the 20g after a complete cleaning. The 5g gets used for all of 10 or 15 minutes. Considering that they get shipped around the world in a little baggie, the 5g is almost spacious!

You can use carbon. I use it routinely for QT. Some fish sail through the carbon without a qualm. Other fish seem bothered by it and then it does not take much to push them over the edge. By edge, I mean death.

You can use the TTM , Prazipro and then an extended observation something like 40 plus days of observation.

Either way, you are getting an edge by using quarantine.

Isnt it recommended to let the tank air dry for 24 hours after sanitizing it?

Just wipe it dry after a final rinse with a bit of rodi water. It'll be fine.

Copper is only effective when ick is present or in it's free swimming stage. I would not treat a healthy fish with copper.
