Copperband damaged beak

Hello everyone!

I bought this handsome guy a few weeks ago. He is in a 40g with rock QT. He is eating frozen Mysis really. I added a rock with Atapsia from DT. He ate them all.

I was cleaning his tank and probably startled him. Next day noticed that his beak looks ubnormal. He is eating Mysis really well as usual.

1. I wonder if any one had experience like that.
2. Would his beak straighten out?
3. Would he be able to eat Atapsia with the beak like that if it heals that way.

I've never seen so obviously don't know; but I would assume that this is not all that unusual with these fish and Mother Nature tends to compensate her critters with common injuries. It may cause feeding problems.

FWIW: Ichthyologists don't refer tho this part of a CBB as its "beak", the scientific term is "schnoz".

Copperbands may or may not eat Aiptasia. If he is eating mysis you are ahead of the game since many do not eat at all.

It looks like it was damaged in shipping from rubbing snout against the bag... It should go back to normal,salt water fish heal quite rapidly.....

He was eating Aiptasia. I placed one loose rock from DT with Aiptasia. I am just afraid he will not eat Aiptasia with the schoz like that after I move him to DT.

Great choice on the c-butters I have always loved this fish and have had good luck in keeping them. He or she will be fine...

No, if he was eating aiptasia, he will. If you like steak, a tooth ache may slow you down, but it won't stop you.

And for cute answers above about what Ichthyologists call them, the Copperband butterflyfish (Chelmon rostratus), is commonly known as the beaked coral fish. And the beak is known as the snout. The OP kindly accepted my friend above's joke but her terminology was a-ok. :thumbsup:
