Copperband Owners Plz Read

My CBB definitely eats aiptasia. I have zero in my display, but plenty in my sump. He also ate all of the tiny feather duster worms. I saw him nip at candy-cane corals, but after a couple of bites, he never tried that again.

I am positive that mine WILL eat a clam since I feed him green mussels on the half shell all the time.

hey my copperband was doing great for about 3 days,,,grazing and swimming normally..today he looks like he has a bloat problem or something. he is swimming sporatically and just floating with the current. he does have irritations on his side and i am not sure if the pygmy angel has picked on him or not. any direction would help

i figured out that one of our LFS's sticks brain corals in with their CBB's, and they are right; if there's one thing a copperband will eat, it's your brain coral.

live clams are a great idea, they love them. if yours is still alive goldmaniac, go get some steamers. just pop the back muscle with a knife and drop it in.

I found him the next morning, DOA. I guess I should have picked up some Steamers from the seafood dept at the food store.

I wouldn't encourage any fish to eat mussels or clams. That is if you want to keep any in your system.

I QT'd my CBB in an established QT tank with rock from my display sporting aiptasia. I did NOT feed it anything while it was in the QT for 4 weeks. How's that for counter-culture??

Anyway, I had thousands (yes that's right) aiptasia in my display, and a billion feather worms. Once I was satisfied that the CBB was very healthy and would eat aiptasia, I released it into the display at night. This fish was quite skittish in QT, darting around like a maniac. Once in the display, within 24 hours it was hanging with the tangs and wrasses, hunting among the rocks, and to this day is on an ever present search for tidbits in the rock. It also is getting interested in what i feed the other fish, and has joined the feeding pack. I am not sure if it has or will eat the prepared food, but since I have a never-ending supply of aiptasia, I think I am OK. If I feel that it is going hungry, I will trade it off to another reefer.

My CBB was put straight into my tank. However, I did wait until my LFS had a CBB that was in their system for 2 weeks and was still healthy. He was a little shy at first in my tank but 2 months later he is now eating out of my hand. He doesn't care for shrimp pellets but he eats frozen and flakes. Maybe I'll try blood worms for fun.

Interesting about feeding mussels or clams to them. I feed a frozen green mussel occasionally and admit to wondering if he would start picking on my Crocea as a result of this...so far nothing.

Has anyone had this problem...a CBB that did not pick on a clam until he was offered a clam on the halfshell?

My CBB just died yesterday, was doing great and then I had to move him to my SPS frag tank bc he was nipping at my chalice frags in the display. Never really acclimated to the smaller tank with less rock and stuff to nip at, and I think he eventually starved to death. Mine loved apistasia more than anything, cleared them out in a day or two. By the way, I have never used a QT either, but I have lost alot of fish and corals over the years to accidents. I dont believe I have ever contaminated my tank from new inhabitants, but cannot be sure.
