Coral Banded Shrimp owners check in.

I've seen mine jump at every fish in my tank. Trying to catch? Chaseing away? Don't know. Did find it one day holding my Emerald crab like a Big Boy hamburger. Again, did it kill it? Find it dead? Don't know.

I had a CBS, two cleaners, and a fire shrimp along with 4 or 5 small fish in a 60 gallon breeder one time and I never had any problems with it. It was actually a model citizen. It never killed a fish, I never saw it messing with the other shrimp, it never went after the snails, etc. I did keep it well fed though.

I have had one in my 55 gallon for about 6 months now. I've never had a problem with him. He usually hides until night and I have never seen him go after a fish or anything else for that matter.

I had a large CBS for quite some time in my tank, he was my favorite part of it. He was always out moving around and couldn't have been any better of an addition to the tank. I did find him with dead fish in his claws before, but i know they were already dead and he did not kill them. While he could be a real jerk and always threw his claws up when soemthing came by, he never went after anything to the point of death. Everything left him alone and he did the same.

He was actually best of friends with my starry blenny. They ALWAYS were together down in the cave area I had. If you saw one, you saw the other. My CSB was always cleaning him and the blenny never cared. true friendship haha

I've had that stenopus t above in a pico reef for about 6 yrs, model citizen. Notably resistant to peroxide they are...can take direct contract with 3% interestingly. Not just mine, but the whole genus is very resistant to peroxide. May not be helpful detail in the thread but its an interesting metabolic complement compared to Lysmata cousins.

I have two in my tank and they are model citizens. They have never attacked any of my fish and I have seen them “clean” some of my tangs. They do wave at fish as they swim by put never attack. Sure they will eat dead fish but so will everything else.

This doesn't really have anything to do with this thread, but these orange fish posted on page 1, are really pretty. Can someone identify them for me?

My coral banded has never been a problem. I've even seen him pull cleaning duty once or twice. He even lives on the same rock with a blood red fire shrimp and a peppermint shrimp without issue. I keep everything in my tank well fed and everyone gets along.

My coral banded stayed in a cave next to my clownfish,I never seen it bother any of my fish except to do a occasional cleaning for the tangs. Was a good addition to my tank.

Hello,

I believe those are Lyretail Anthia's.

Wow, after 3+ years, I think I just made my first real contribution to the community.. WOO HOO!

(This is where someone will chime in that I'm wrong, lol.)

Cheese

Mine would try to fight my 14" snowflake eel when I was feeding the eel silversides. he'd always go up n pinch at his head. ( never any fish ). That went on for 4-5 month n one day he disappeared. Wonder where he went :p haha someone must have got sick of being picked on.

I was thinking about one or a pair of the blue coral banded shrimp. Supposed to be smaller and so presumably less likely to kill fish. I'm still a little worried about the cuc (pep shrimp, snails, sm hermits, etc).

I had a blue male 10 years ago (female died immediately after acclimation). He lived with my Diamond Watchman goby in his burrows in exchange for cleaning the fish. A redheaded goby also lived with them at night. The redheaded was about the same size as the shrimp LOL. Never saw it go after anything. It stayed on the bottom.

You can barely see him behind the goby.

Where can I get a pair of the blue coral banded shrimp? I've only see them sold singly.

I have had a very large coral banded shrimp in my 150 for a bit over a year with the only issue being him having a 'discussion' with my marine beta, i.e. the marine beta's tail gets torn every once in a while.

The smallest fish that the CBS is in with are a green mandarin and a clownfish, and these fish have been left alone. The CBS lived in there for awhile with a longnose hawkfish... still miss that fish.

Ive had my CBS for 2+ years now and never had a problem with him. I would find it very unlikely that he could even catch a healthy fish and kill it. Hes not the fastest or most agile creature ive ever seen.
