Coral banded shrimp

Ok I've we used to take his gangster *** out of my reef but he hides in a cave. Obviously I don't want to take all the rock out to get him. Anyone have any tips for capture or trickery to get him out?

Ive never had one but I would make a DIY trap out of a 3-liter bottle and load it up with some fish food. I'd probably be best to do it at night in darkness and use a red light to check on the trap every so often. I'd put the trap right at the entrance to his cave. Hopefully he'll be unable to resist the urge and go for the food.

Just google diy fish trap and you should find some howtos on making one out of a 3-liter bottle.

Yes to the bottle trap. Used one to get my coral eating shrimp out. I used water bottles. Worked in one night.

Instead of using a trap you could just get yourself a flashlight and a net and hunt at night. Don't shine the light directly into the tank, you just want the slightest amount to spot the shrimp. If it's in a position where you can catch it go for it. You might not get it the first try or even the first night, but it's definitely worth a shot. GL.

I love my banded shrimp's boss attitude. He probably would have gotten munched down if he wasn't such a pimp. On that note, I can put my hand in the tank and he will come up to it and try to pinch me and is basically an easy target at night. If the other options don't work, try training him with food to come out and you can coax him into the open and net him.

Those claws they have look menacing, but your skin is much tougher. If a net might hang up on something like a coral then definitely think about removing it by hand. Just as an example a lot of people won't handle bristle worms. If you apply pressure they will hurt you, but if your calm cool and collected it's no big deal. Kind of like touching a cactus in the back yard.

He he....gagster is a good word for them...at least the ones I have had in the past.....not anymore. I was lucky...he hung out right in the back...I just went in and netted him out and traded him at my LFS.

Holding a piece of raw shrimp in your little finger while keeping your others free to nab HIM when he arrives to lunch is one method that works for me.

Interesting, mine doesn't bother anything just hangs out and comes out when I feed frozen foods.
