Coral Maternity in Portugal

Hey Machado

Thank you very much for sharing all these nice pictures and all that information, I'm sure you are an inspiration to many :)

I wondered if you ever considered using marble as base for your fragments. It is simply a crystalline form of calcium carbonate and I've read/seen/heard somewhere that fragments love to grow on marble.

I thought that when choosing light, the more PAR the better thus 10.000K should be better than 15.000 - Is it only for coloration 50%(10.000K)-50%(20.000K) is best or also for general growth. Because otherwise it could be an idea to initially grow the fragments under 10.000K until they reach a certain size and then boost their color with higher kelvin...

Thanks for the update Machado that is amazing coloration you have on you corals :)
Besides the questions above I came to think what sort of backup system do you have if the power goes down?
Do you have a massive generator or ?

great work as always, love that opening between the tanks, great idea. Looks like you can seal it off completely if you like.

Hate asking questions as I'm sure you've answer all of them a hundred times. Could you point me towards where you wrote about your flow pattern and philosophy.

Thanks,
Tom

amazing as always.

Im doing some planning on starting a tank but now Im unsure if I want a fish tank or a prop tank :)

Machado deSousa I have been watching this thread for a long time and with your recent Day Care addition I have to say this is getting out of control!:lolspin: I think I know why you rented out a place just for your corals... to keep this little habit of yours on the down-low from the wife! One day you will dream pocillapora are growing out your ears and when you try to wake up you'll realize it's actually true. :eek1: Already your hair has grown to algae. It's very Jamaican and looks good on you. :lmao: But I have one important question for you. When the last Day Care addition blocks the exit/entrance how long will the beer supply sustain you?

Skydancer, mammut89, mecpc, t11t5, Eklikewhoa, thanks for your kindness.

Hi mastou!
I didn't forget to respond to you. :)
My next experience will be with marble fragments. I just visited some interprises of marble sawyers and I have already some marble pieces to try. I'll give you the feedback.
I think that it is a valid option but nuisance algae may be a problem if you not always keep phosphates at lowest levels.
Thanks for your comments.

I really appreciate your mangroves and up keep of them. I have begun getting decent growth on mine now and cannot wait to see some "hard core" growth. LOL! :)
Keep up the great work dude.

I was very excited with growing of first aerial roots. I remember that I paid more attention to mangrove then fishes and corals.
Thanks for your words.

Cheers,

Why would it matter if he was selling his coral?

I have some return pumps powered by an UPS and the last time I tested it worked no more than 3 hours perhaps because the batteries receive no more charge enough. (It was designed to operate for 4 hours ).:eek1: I need to make an upgrade as soon as I have time ($).
Maybe I have to feed air pumps instead return pumps to minimize consumption in order to work longer in case of power failure.
Every day I pray to God to help me...
Thanks for your comments.

Cheers,

Over the last few days, I've read every post in this thread...

Amazing.

I'm inspired to move to Portugal. :)

Hi Machado! Congrats on winning thread of the month! You deserve it not only for your amazing tank, but your willingness to help others. There are many on RC who will help others, but in a thread like this (20 pages) it gets very hard to respond to everyone. I have a very small nano tank, and am daunted by your setup.

Machado you'll have to hire the whole complex soon, the way your going

Looks totally amazing as usual mate

Hi Chris wright!
I was missing news from corals sanctuary. Believe me, I gonna take into account your excellent idea: to hire the space to pay the whole bills…:mixed:
Thanks for your sympathy.
