Coral Maternity in Portugal

Hello Machado!

First I would like to thank you for your great hospitality and for giving me the time to sit, have a few beers, and check out your amazing system.

You have taken the hobby to another level, I have never seen that much frags in my life!!! Colors are great, growth looks amazing especially on the Montipora machadensis!!!

Thx again, and I hope to see you soon!

Hi Machado.

Just re read the whole thread again and have another question.

In the nursery tank are you still using the Wavemaker Sfiligoi?
If not what are you using now and why did you change it?

Thanks
Chris

Hi chr15_8!
No, I'm not running the Sfiligoi WaveMaker anymore.
I am lucky to be a friend of Mr. Alessandro Sfiligoi. Last time I was with him two years ago, in Germany, Nuremberg, during the last Interzoo Fair, I told him I had already used its WaveMaker, he said "it was a joke of mine, to produce waves on surface of the tank". Resulting in beautiful glitter lines... if using MH..., I said.

I changed. I needed a strong circulation in my tank, so Im using a Polario 22ML (6,000gal/h), 3 (I had 4 but one transformer is broken) x Turbelle nanostream 6055 (264 to 1,453 gal) with speed controller from Tunze and Aqua Bee 5000 (1,300 gal/h). That's all.

Cheers,

lol thanks for the reply. I had read about the paddles and couldn't understand how you got the required flow in the tank using it.

Could you post a picture please of the power heads in there? Due to the depth I though there would of been some problems with the aggressive flow?

Thanks
Chris

Chris, the paddles remember the Mississippi boat...

The flow is a little agressive. This week I will take some pictures for you.

Cheers,

OH! good question.
but is there a way to offer some explanation on all your flow? (after you answer his question)
i see your using a lot of TUNZE style pumps.

I do that to reach a strong circulation.
About Tunze pumps in this tank (nursery), I'm using 3 x 6055 (264 to 1,453 gal). As you know, the real flow of turbelle pumps are almost half of the advertised by Tunze.

Cheers,

Hi lebreef!

I was very happy to be with you throughout the night talking about corals and reef fish. You are an expert about reef fish and I learned a lot from you.

About Montipora machadensis ... let me explain to the people what it means:

Some years ago, Prof. Sanjay Joshi visited my prop and I gave him one of my babies he liked. He asked me the name of the coral and I did not know the name. «I´m going to call it Montipora machadensis», he said! I have to ask him about my baby...

When you return to Lisbon I will be happy receiving you again. The same goes for our friend Maroun!

Thanks you very much for the pictures. See you also running LED's.

What's your opinion on them and which ones are they?

Merry Christmas
Chris

machado desousa,
yes curious as to when you switched to led.....i have heard of coral maternity thru my lfs and followed your setup previously but had thought you were running some ati t5s?? how do you like the led and what particular leds are you using?

Merry Christmas!! thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience!!

Hi Mr. I have a quick question about using cement for frag plugs and I'm sure your the right person to get the answer from. I'm using Emaco GP cement to make my frag plugs and I was wondering how long do I need to soak it in fresh water before I can use them in my frag tank. Thank you in advance!!

Happy new year Machado, hope you keep treating us good in the next year with nice pictures and updates from your work.
Thanks for sharing and I wish you well for the time to come.
