Coral Maternity in Portugal

More then 50 times per hour, in all tanks, for sure...

I wish you a Happy New Year.

Cheers,

Happy new year. well so 50 to 60 times is a must. iv never had any experience with SPS xcept with a monit. cap. well looking at your tank im planning on a mixed reef for the first time. i really love the colours and health of your corals. ur tanks motivated me for sps. iv been keeping softies and LPS coz i always thought sps are difficult. currently my tanks have 20 times flow but well im gona setup a new tank with softies on top and bottom softies and LPS. thanks for the reply.. i hope someday i get to come to visit your farm and get some advice too.lol. never saw anyting like this before.

Machado.

Just finished reading everything. Took me more then a week! What a great project!

I have two questions- you probably fraged grown frags. :) what is the minimum size that you wait for a frag to grow until you can take a piece from it?

And the second question is which water test you do to the NSW before adding them (after the ozone/uv treatment)?

Thanks Machado for sharing all you know.

Machado, your tanks are very inspirational, I remember reading this thread when it was first posted years ago and it blew me away, years later I see it again and it still blows me away, keep up the good work, Happy new year.

Hi Rogger Castells! Thanks you for your interest in this thread and for your words of inspiration. I wish you too an Happy New Year.

I wouldn't advise you to keep softies and SPS together due to problems of chemical warfare unless it uses significant amounts of charcoal, with regular changes, in your system.
If you travel to Lisbon I will be happy to receive you.

I'm testing this pendant less than a month ago and I need more time to be shure about the results. Till now has been positive. The visual aspect is nice, the corals are improving color and growth. In terms of costs I'm saving 50% in my elctric bill and for some years I will not need to replace the bulbs of this tank.
The pendant is Neptune.

Cheers,

Hi Machado

Do you have any links for the lighting unit's? (Might need to pm)

I had a look but couldn't find a company called Neptune that make led's (not in England anyway)

Thanks

Hi Machado,

First off, Kudos to you... I really take my hat off for your dedication and your helpfulness to everyone.

I've had keep a marine tank for over 12 years and have to stop after I was relocated to indonesia... and just by reading this single tread, You have re-ignited the passion of keeping a reef tank in me all over again!!

I think I'm going to start building my tank really soon!

If I ever have a chance to visit portugal, I would definitely make it a point to visit you!

Anyway, A small request...and I thought many would like to see too..is to see a side by side photo of a same single frag from the beginning (2006) and now (2012).

:-)

Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!

What could I say?. After most than one year developing Neptune, we've found the best tester that could ever find!!!.
Thank you Machado for your support.
Glad to see the pendant over your nursery tank!!!.
You trusted from the first time and now I only could write:

THANKS!!

Best regards from Spain

I apologize for not having intervened in this topic as often as I should.

You just did a marathon!
When frags reach +/- 3 " I can get pieces for them.
About NSW, no tests, no ozone, no treatments, until one day ... the water enters through filter socks.
Thanks for your words and interest.

Hi gildow!

Glad to know that this topic has re-ignited your will to start again.
When you visit Lisbon I will be happy receiving you.
I'm sorry but, from the beginning, my option is not to see the corals growing but to breed. However, in the maternity tank some slow growing colonies, namely Turbinaria, Psamacora, etc. have grown freely.
Thank you for your interest and support.

Cheers,
