I remember when I was following Chingchai's thread in the early days and a fellow reefer from Brasil casually observed that he was spending more time checking in on Chingchai's thread than his wife!!! Being on hand for an update was like finding a treasure map to Santas wharehouse. If that's happening to anyone here I apologize. I'm not dragging this out. Soon I will be providing progress reports and seeking advice on some critical parts of this build so please hang in. The result will be worthy of your input.

Look at this from my vantage point.....my wife is convinced I am having an affair as I sit here haunched in the dim light of my monitor as we watch TV. I tell her I am spending time with you guys and that only gets me in more trouble!!!

Hi everyone, my name is Peter and I like salt.

Hi Peter Welcome

hahaha  to that. Where do you do most of your shopping? Oakville Reef Gallery? are they the ones building this for you?

Did you have a tank before this one?

I have so many questions, the tank is just amazing. Anyways off to sleep, this damn work thing keeps getting in the way :thumbdown

I have not started any shopping for livestock yet. Aquatic Sculptures has primary responsibility for the design, delivery and installation of all systems related to and supporting the aquarium.

I have not had a tank of this significance before.

Petet,

Just finished the first 40 pages of Chingchai's build. I have to say thank you for recomending an excellent read. I will continue to read from start to finish. Again I aplaud you for inviting all of us into your home and making us truely feel like a valued part of this build. You serve as an excellent example of what this hobby should be about. Not just keeping fish and corals in a glass box, but to truely create an environment that fosters health in it's inhabitants while giving a pleasing view to all.

Thanks very much Iluzhun, Let me know when you get to the elephant. If I have my way, your praise will be mirrored back. This will be a true group effort.

I cant find the words to type... I mean I know nothing good happens in a reef fast but I am so fricken excited to see this thing filled!!! Im tagging along excellent looking tank and amazing pics moving it in with the crane hahaha. Beautiful house by the way.

Thank you Anthonius, you are right and thank you.

peter i also like salt, so much in fact that im in need of more. will be the first time in 2 years ive had to buy any. last time i got such a great deal($23per box shipped) from an online supplier that i bought 7 pallets that 36 200 gal boxes per pallet you do the math. My wife screamed when i put them all in the garage and she had to park out side because i refused to move the hot rod.:spin3: I went to buy more in jan and dont you know they are no longer in business. so sad now its like 60 a box at lfs and not much cheaper online after shipping.:thumbdown

I have read the part about the elephant and believe that to be a significant turning point. I am continuing the read as quickly as i can and now understand your full intent for this build.

I wouldn't move the hot rod ewither. my wife is lucky she gets to do the laundry in my garage.

shes not perticulary fond of my 300gal puddle in her basement laundry area either but she tolerates as long as i mop up when done and the tank in living room stays lookin good.

Hi Peter,

I pretty much troll these boards, but this thread was worth commenting on! I have been in this hobby for a little over a year now and I must say, this build is quite impressive! Since my small 34 gallons of the ocean has been setup, I have barely watched any TV! I can only imagine how many hours of enjoyment this tank will bring not only you and your family, but this community as well!

I am also curious to know what kind of background you have in this hobby with previous tank experiences etc.?

Have fun, and thanks for sharing your journey with us!

Marty

Marty, thank you for your support. My direct experience is limited..........but I have watched alot of TV.

Hi Peter,

I was lucky enough to catch this thread from your first post and looking forward to watching it evolve.

As for the other islands; how about dedicating one to newbies? Complete with hair algae, aiptasia, domino damsels, and a tap water top-off system :lmao: I still consider myself a newbie after 5yrs so hopefully no one takes offense.

Keep up the good work!

No offence BennyFrank, this thread welcomes honest humour. Actually, the newbie island will be in the sump! It's gonna be called......wait for it .......... Peter's Island.
