Quote -"I mean you have been in the area for a couple months and you decide you will be in charge of a club buy,-"What?!" where did you get the power to do so? -"The Force..." Without anyone else even being able to see the coral. It sounds a little fishy to me." Never said it was going to be a club buy..........didn't put myself in charge of anything. I made an offer through a friend that was giving this club free stuff for us to sell, no strings attached, for "our" or maybe I should say "your" benefit. I am sorry that it sounds fishy to you, it was supposed to sound "Corally."
Quote - "This would seem to be a Group Buy, your intentions may indeed be honorable but before we can do a GB using the group name we have to run it by the Council first." - Never said it was going to be a group buy, didn't mean to imply one.......... again..........I promise.... no group buy.
Quote - "If he's going to donate some corals to the club COOL but then you mention a wholesale deal and getting people together for an order. " - Yes my mistake, I was trying to say if a few people wanted to get some corals with me I could do it for a deal..... getting tons of flak for that so I retacted it. It was a bad idea. Once again, no group buy.... I promise. No coral buys of any kind, it was a mistake. BUT HEY, WE'LL TAKE THE FREE STUFF......
Quote - "Hold the phone here I was only involved in this club for a few months and I controlled a group buy for critters and didn't get this kinda of flack., I realize that establishing a linage on a coral is one thing but still I think we are going a bit into the crazy zone here." - FWIW "Tanks"if I ever meet you I will thank you in person (you can have a coral too)
Not trying to start something again but I wonder if anyone knows what the scientific name of a Purple Monster is or a Bali tri-color.(Ok, Ok, I know we all do but). That is the true lineage IMO. I do understand the authenticity factor for LE corals. It just freeks me out that no one cares anymore what's in their tank, just as long as it has some designer label.... anyone seen the latest "Couture RazzleDazzle Acropora"? Years ago, we used to pride ourselves in finding undescribed species of corals or rare corals, uncommon in the wild. I believe something has been lost somewhere along the way.......(Razzle Dazzle, now that's funny)
Quote - "FWIW our local stores generally avoid cheap SPS in favor of aquacultured pieces." - and so do I. I have about 100 or so different corals in my tank at the moment including frags, and I can say with confidence that at least 95% of them are aquacultured or maricultured including the live rock. It was a prerequisite for my tank and one of the original reasons I want to get involved with the club.
So anyway, again I wasn't trying to force a group buy, I wasn't trying to swindle anyone with wild coral frags, or fake LE Tyree ORA ATL etc. frags, or take over any political office, third world countries, etc.
I was trying to help out the club. And it backfired. For that I am sorry. Only thing I can say in my defense is... I am new to the club... I thought it would be a good idea... I thought that's what reef clubs do, find deals help each other out, etc. I wasn't expecting the "negative backlash" (politcally correct term for "bashing") But like Gramma said, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth" .............. Lets move on shall we?
Q:Anyone ever keep an elegance coral successfully?
