WOW! I leave this thread for 2 days and miss out. Jamesurq - my open brain is a Trachyphyllia geoffroyi. The first and main thing that happened with repeated touching was retraction by the brain. He started to never open up and out anymore and his meat started recessing. I pulled him away before death or bleaching, but I could definitly tell there was a negative effect. The colt got a bacterial infection around the same time, but I don't know for sure if thats coincidence or not.

Roland! Hey man! Yea, the Bubble is now over 15" across and spreads out fully during the day. I though I might have to frag, but now plan on making him the center piece of my tank where he won't be able to hurt anybody else :) Him and the Colt are having a bit of a war right now since the Colt is about 10" across and high. E-mail me and I'll send you some current tank pics :)

Update on coral wars:

Frogspawn vs. Bubble = Frogspawn

Although both seem to be pulling back slightly, there is a slight mark on the bubble and the frogspawn seems unphased....

Definitely the clash of the titans though...:D

Dark blue encrusting sponge vs. Acropora sp. of varying types
Sponge grows too fast to loose unfortunately.

Dark blue encrusting sponge vs. Merulina sp.
Merulina sp. keeps it at bay with sweepers.

Dark blue encrusting sponge vs. me
Let's just say I'm not celebrating anything.

Hydroids vs. Tridacna maxima
Unfortunately Hydroids. They actually permanently disfigured the mantle.

I used to worry about this kind of thing going on in my tank and then realized that without a 5000 gallon tank I couldn't keep eveything I wanted without it happening. Definately would like to get rid of that sponge though. It loves my daily phytoplankton additions.

I'd like to see this sponge. I'm looking for an encrusting non-photosynthetic thing for a rather large shaded spot in my tank.....

Wanna send me some of it?>

mushrooms vs. yellow polyps... shrroms win!
"baby" hammerhead... that little sucker is a fighter- puts out sweepers around anything! Finally found him a hole completely by himself!

Millipora acro vs. Staghorn= Millipora.., no problemo!
Purple Hammer vs. Ricordia= Hammer
Frogspawn vs. Buttons= Frogspawn keeps them at bay.

I had read and heard and seen pics that Euphyllia corals will coexist in a sort of tie, so I am surprised to hear frogspawn over bubble.

With sps

Monti vs anything = anything, BUT the monti (digitata or cap) will adapt and grow around the offending party. I have a purple edged cap that has surrounded a couple of branchs from a thin branching acro.

My tank is becoming a study in acro wars as I have decided to forget about trimming corals and am just letting 'em grow. While there are minor stinging/bleaching of touching branches, all corals seem to adapt by growing in other directions. The will to survive has never been so apparent. Its kind of amazing. I will work on some pics. However, my next worry is shading, I may be forced to trim branches because of shading.

I use a Fungia disk coral to keep my hair mushrooms in check.
Now I need a coral to keep my green star polyp in check (weed of the aquarium trade).

Not an overwhelming win - as in - a kill. But a definite retreat by the bubble. At one point, the frogspawn had seemingly dropped one of it's polyps on the bubble and the polyp was continually stinging it. I removed the polyp and there was some pretty significant damage.

Im currently looking at Xenia vs. acropora nana, anyone know the outcome???

Carpet vs LTA - Carpet
Carpet vs nice yellow pullops - Carpet

:mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

I am really starting to dislike my carpet - I would get rid of it by my Pink Skunk hosts in it:rolleye1:

Bubble is not a Euphyllia, that's why it won't get along with frogspawn. I've also heard what you're saying about the Euphyllias all coexisting without killing each other, but I don't have any first-hand experience with it. Frogspawn, Torch, and Hammer are the 3 Euphyllias that should all get along OK.

I'm not sure if you'd want it if you have anything else. If you feed tons of phytoplankton like I do it over takes about everything in it's path. I've noticed small new colonies in my sump so it definately spreads. I'd love to send you all that I have in my tank. Where you located? Come get it.

Sambryce

Thanks for the info, had it in my head that bubble was Euphyllia - I am mistaken.

Great now I have another impending battle to deal with..

Jeff

My wallet vs Me=Wallet, 1st rd KO
Bubble vs GSP= bubble
red shrooms vs acro= shrooms
purple monti digi vs orange minti digi= tie

I try to keep battles to a minimum, but seeing some of these tanks makes me wonder whether i should just let nature take it's course.....
