Cosmo's 75G Build Thread

Thanks TJ. Since I'm dosing kalk with my ATO right now, do you think it's going to make a huge difference?

update: I caught two of the females. One to go.

Beautiful pics!

Maybe I missed it, where are you catching these fish? What method are you using to catch them? I just tore apart my tank catching fish and I'm now very open to learning new tricks. :D

I had the anthias in a frag tank before adding them to my display. In retrospect I should have just setup a QT. They have been impossible to catch in there because they swim under the egg crate. A friend here has loaned me a fish trap (acrylic tube with a trap door) and I put mysis in there and then sit and try to close the door without cutting my fish in half. The last one is pretty skittish, so I don't know if I'll catch her. A problem with the fact that the trap is a tube, is that I can not "drop" food into it, but have to reach in there with tweezers. I'm going back in!!

Good luck! I ended up draining my tank and catching them in shallow water. Catching them was fast, but filling it back up and putting it back together was a pain.

If you're currently dosing it via your ATO, then no... I wouldn't expect to see a huge jump. Although I will be interested to see your results... as many say dosing kalkwasser from a still reservoir has the same benefit as a reactor.

You can always use a feeding clip and attach some nori in it, then place that in the end of the trap so the fish has to swim in to get that food. Or a longer piece of tubing on a turkey baster to squirt the mysis back there.

so, I'm back from vacation, and thanks to a friend, my tanks look great.

The first order of business was to catch the last female anthia. Surprisingly, it took all of about 30 seconds. Now she is in my display tank.

So... livestock list in my 75 is:

Yellow tang
Flame angel
2 percs
Fridmani Pseudochromis
Mystery Wrasse
Yellow Wrasse
4 blue/green chromis
3 female Lyretail Anthias
1 male Lyretail Anthia
2 blood shrimp
1 cleaner shrimp
1 tigertail sea cucumber

Now when I walk by the tank, it looks very lively. The corals seemed to have grown this week as well. Probably an imperceptible amount to anyone else.

I'll post a photo of the feeding frenzy later.

SAD AND SWIFT ENDING

SAD AND SWIFT ENDING

So.....

I walked into the room with the tank today and saw this:

I don't want to talk about it. But I will later.

Sorry man. That sucks. That's not what I expected to see at all when I saw you made a post to your thread.

Holy crap!!!! I don't wish this type of finding on anyone. Just rest assured it either has happened or happens to all of us.

Thanks guys. These things happen, it is what it is.

well, I think a pump running my gfo/carbon overheated, melted part of the plastic and released something into the water. There was a very strong burnt plastic smell all around the tank and the pump looked like it exploded (while still being contained...if that makes sense...I'll add pics). all sps was dead, fish made it, clam is iffy, my three shrimp dead, emerald crabs dead, some snails made it, ricordeas made it.

Well, the tank has been broken down now. Everything is being rinsed in h20/vinegar. Get all that corraline off my stuff. I'll be selling pretty much the whole setup once it's clean.

Hopefully I will start a new thread soon...

It was a small oceanic pump that actually came with a biocube (I upgraded the biocube one). The GFO was completed solid like a rock, not sure if that was pre or post. The carbon smelled like burnt plastic. I don't know if to re-use those two reactors or not. I can clean them with the normal water/vinegar but might just toss them.

Just saw this thread after aerius007 told me. Sorry to hear about your loss man, tough losing all those colonies.
