I was wondering how you like the Outer Orbit?
I am thinking of getting the same fixture, but the size of the MH reflectors look small to me.
Do you think that it works well for your sized tank,
and do you think it would still work the same if your tank was wider (24")?

True blue - thanks. I like the outer orbit for my size tank. It's easy to setup/use and is very compact. The reflector size is an issue, especially if you have the light close to the water. At first, I had it on the provided legs, proly 5inches above the water level. The spread was not great. Now, the light is hanging, about 8 inches a above the water level, and I like the spread much better. Remember, that a lot will depend on your aquascaping. You may not need as much spread at the top.
For a wider tank, I might look at the lumenmax elites and a bluewave 7. Those have given me a much wider coverage on another tank.

No, Right now i have an 80 that i'm setting up (48"X18"X22"), but I'm going to run a DSB so it would technically be a little shorter, I want to have the option of keeping the light if i decide to have a custom tank made for me down the line... I've had an Outer Orbit before, But i would of expected the 250 version to have bigger reflectors... Also, Would it be too much for me to ask to get a good picture of how under your tank is set-up? I'm curious to see how you have it set-up with little space under the tank, because i am going to have the same issue.

Here is a photo of my stand. Not a good photo.
I just added the Eheim 1262 to replace the Iwaki. It is SO MUCH QUIETER in my office right now. I'll see over the next few days, if there is any significant increase in temp.
I will add new photos of the sump, once I cap the bulkhead and remove the Iwaki. Can't wait.

Pump switch was a huge success.
As for the calcium reactor, my levels are at 420 and 8.3. I'm not sure if I sure try to raise them or not. pH is being a little low, and I'm thinking of adding a kalk reactor to the system.
Marc, if I was to raise both CA and ALK, can I increase both bubble count and drip rate? Also, can you run a Kalk reactor with the feed pump in the sump, so that it circulates saltwater rather than fresh water from the ATO. That way, I can hook it up to my controller and say, if pH is < 8.1, then start the pump until pH is > 8.1. Assuming my pH probe is in the same chamber as the kalk outlet, it shouldn't take very much to raise the pH quickly, and I wouldn't overdose the tank.

If you want to raise alk & Ca, usually slowing down the drip rate or increasing CO2 within the reactor will do it.
I don't have enough experience with kalkwasser to give any advice other than to be very careful since too much can hurt your system. If you use a controller, make sure it can't clog and stay open when you need it to shut off.

I might try slowing down the drip rate first. Monitor the changes, and go from there. Seems like there is less of a chance for something to go wrong that way. I can't wait to get a better controller. I'm holding off on an ACIII and waiting for the Apex. I don't want to be one of the first to have it though, so it may be a while.

You will love that eheim. low heat, low power consumption and quiet. What more could you ask for in a pump, lol.
You can can increase the CA and ALK like marc said with the reactor, but the down side is the lower PH effluent. On a side note though, the higher the ALK them more of a PH buffer you will have so it should not drop too much. Just drip it near your skimmer intake and that should take care of the C02 in the effluent and raise its PH.

I might try dripping new the skimmer (I'll have to get a longer piece of tubing first).
I already have one of those pumps and they are just so nice.
I am going out of town soon, and I want everything working just right. I might wait until I get back to change anything, since it's working well enough now.

I am in the process of adding a few anthias to my tank. So far I have caught the male and one of the females. Here are photos of the male:
I really like the pectoral fins as they are translucent with two bright pink spots and one bright orange spot.

If I could do it over again, I would have added the Kalk Reactor before the Ca Reactor to my system. That way there just would have been a 1-time adjustment needed to the Ca Reactor, and no guessing since you would know how the Kalkwasser is affecting the Ca & Alk levels in your system ahead of time.
