Could A Beginner Keep Anthias?

I was curious about the Lyretail Anthias. As lon as you feed them a meaty, varied diet 3-4x daily, are they hardy? Also, I read that a couple of reefers keep anthias, but only feed the tank once a day.

PS: my tank has a refugium, but no skimmer, so I would probably be getting plankton swept into the tank.

problem with anthias is keeping them fed.........can get by w/ 2-3 times daily.....don't recommend once a day, these fish are far too active and will whither away

be sure that the lyretail or whatever you decide to get is eating before purchase!

Then once you keep them fed, the problem becomes water quality. It's a tough balance, IME.

As noted, you have to keep them very well fed with multiple feedings per day. Assuming they start eating and you can keep feeding this often, the next problem is the lack of a skimmer to remove all the extra food and waste.

Overall, the odds are that it may not work out really well for a beginner without a skimmer.

JMO: get a skimmer before you get the Anthias

Wow, missed that. Yes, totally agree....spend the money on a skimmer before the anthias! :)
