Could I try an LTA....

My BTA has not faired my whole tank upgrade so well. It is still alive and eating, but not so happy.......Now, even if it does live and survive (hoping it will), I have never had a pair of clowns that would host it. So I was wondering, if I have two 250W MH w/ two 48W HOT5's for supplement, would it be able to thrive in a tank w/ near stable conditions with a 1.5/2" SB? The tank is going to/is mainly SPS, and I am not really worried with the anemones stinging my corals, as most of them will be towards the top anyway, and well, my aneomes always seem to find a home in good locations;)

So what do you experts (guys) think?

Thanks!

I think it would be fine. I would maybe wait until the bta is healthy just incase there is allelopathy.

What do you mean by near stable?

I think that generally a BTA is hardier than an LTA, so if your BTA isn't thriving, I would work on getting that one in good shape before considering another anemone. And, no to an LTA being happy in a 1-2inch sand bed, 5 or 6 inches is necessary or it will wander.

My lta's are happy with a 2'' deep sand bed and I've seen a couple people here that keep or have kept lta's and other sand dwelling nem's in bb tanks.

I had one for years (sadly it died when a heater malfunctioned and I was on vacation) and it would wander every so often until I put it in a deep sand bed (inside a PVC pipe that was sealed on the bottom). If I put it in a PVC pipe that wasn't sealed, eventually it would start to move and would dig the PVC pipe up. It was a large LTA, beautiful rose colored, similar to a RBTA.

Would not be wise to add a new anemone to the tank until the above question is addressed.

Pass on it until you get the current environment sorted out.

Good luck.

Well, it is still in my holding tank where I was keeping everything until I had the new tank fully up and running. So I wouldn't know how it will do in the new tank..............

But, I was gonna wait anyway......

2 nems in a 90g is what made me bump to a 180g!
If I were to do it all over again I'd only have one nem, especially if you like corals.
An LTA would probably do OK in shallow sand, if you had a container w/ more sand for it that would be better.
LTA's and sebaes do stay put better.

How can one silicone a piece of PVC to the glass of the tank? -This sounds like it might be a good idea. I have places where my powerheads blow the sand into a pile behind the rocks, so I could use some sand from there....

At Home Depot you can get 6 inch pieces of PVC, that are 6 inches in diameter. There are end-pieces that fit the PVC, and I just used aquarium silicon to glue it on. After it had set, I filled it about half full of aragonite fine grade sand, let the anemone dig in, then added a little more sand until the sand went to the top of the PVC pipe.
