Could you replace RO/DI unit with Reactor?

Out of the tap my TDS meter reads 140ppm. Not too shabby for drinking water but not clean enough for reef applications. I do use RO/DI that measures at 0ppm for my tanks.

Here is my question, do you think it would be reef safe to take tap water, run a dual chamber reactor with GFO and Carbon vice using RO/DI water?

Carbon eliminates a lot of nasty and the GFO gets rid of phosphates and heavy medals. This is what we do not want in our tanks.

Thoughts? Discussion? I am about to order a dual chamber reactor and run some tests on our local tap water in Clarksville just to see. Thanks,

+1 the DI part is what removes the rest of what the sediment/Carbon miss. You can not get the 0 tds water you need from your Idea.

Carbon gfo won't filter dissolved metals and small particles...it's why you use a membrane. The pre filters are to help extend the life of your membrane. You need a minimum of and ro unit. Ro with a di unit is best as everyone else mentioned.

Sounds like you are trying to do what a Kold-Steril system does - take out the nasties, leave the calcium and magnesium....

@ home, 90 gallon tank, dry, waiting for the remodelling to be over
@ work, 19,000 gallon per day RO
