Couple of questions..

Ok so tomorrow is going to be my first meeting and I am really excited. I can't wait to meet all of you. I hope everyone is able to make it. I will be there with my form and my dues.

I wanted to contribute to the trading and sharing of frags so I have picked a couple of loose rocks in my tank that have some Zoas on them to bring. They can probably be fragged several times to make several but since I am new to this I would much rather watch someone fragging before I attempt myself. Is there going to be any type of demonstration on this because I would be willing to donate mine for that type of thing.

Also what is the best way to bring the frags to the meeting? I hear people talking about coolers and I see some with the throw away plastic bowls with lids sometimes too. Or ziplocks.

Is anyone else bringing things to trade or share? Cause I have GOT to find something for my Clown, he keeps the Zoas all closed up constantly because he wants to roll around in them all the time. As soon as they open up he swims back over and rolls around in them again till they all close.

Thanks all
:-)

You'll be able to see some of the fragging take place. On bringing your own frags, you are welcome to do that, but it would probably work better at other club meetings where a trade is set up in advance, or a meeting where trading is the main "topic" (like the last meeting).

Since you are new, I recommend coming without the corals and learning and talking with folks. We'll have future trading meetings again -- probably pretty soon :)

I'd leave them at home too unless you know someone wants them. No need to stress them out if you don't know someone wants them.

As far as transporting...

We use a little soft sided cooler (like you might use to pack a lunch in) and we carry those any time we go to a LFS or for frag trading. IMO, the vast majority of corals that die from the trading process die because of big temperature swings. In winter it is a lot easier to have temp swings because the temp difference is usually larger, but corals can definitely have problems with heat too.

You can also sometimes snag little coolers from the LFS's or if you order something online.

Also, larger amounts of water don't change as fast as small ones, so giving more water than you "need" is not usually a bad idea.

Use bags or little containers... that's all preference and what you have laying around. Containers work well for "pokey" corals so you don't end up with holes in your bag, but you can always just double or triple bag. As you start trading more corals, your supply of containers tends to dwindle and you end up needing to use bags more.
