Crocea dying?

I came home today and noticed that my cleaner shrimps were picking on my crocea. The mantle is all scrunged up. But when I move my hand over it, or pick it up, it moves.

Should I be worried?

Nitrate 0 same with others

250 de metal halide.

18 inch height tank, 10 inch light distances from water surface.

How long have you had it?

My cleaner shrimps still sometimes pick on my crocea when food is floating around there but I dont see any problem. Be careful to move your clam and dont damage their "leg".

I believe I had these clams for 3-4weeks. The cleaner shrimps never attacked them. The clams never firmly attached to a rock or the bottom of the tank. They just keep tipping themselves over, but is that because of too much light?

This morning, the cleaner attacked another one and its all closed up won't open.

What would cause the shrimps to pick at them?

Sorry that no one responded to your question but cleaner shrimp are hit and miss. Most likely that is why the clam is not opening and also the clam could be getting some water movement that he/she doesn't like. I bet if you check the tank after dark, you will find the CS on the clams again. :mad2:

Thanks Barry

I think one is about to die completely. one side of the mantle is 3/4 extended while the other mantle extends only 1/4 of the way.

Sigh sad thing =/

I am having the very same problem and I actually planned on taking it out today so it won't nuke the whole tank when I found small white coned snails all inside its foot. You might want to check for these also. I knocked all of them off and put it back in the tank, but I doubt that it will make it and I don't know how patient I should be. I have smelled dead clam before and it is not pretty!

ew thats gross lol

Earlier today, I found a hooked shape piece with threaded tissues. I assume thats the foot. This piece was not attached to the clam itself. I don't know where that piece came from.

I took all the clams out and did a fresh water dip for 10 min. These are 3 inches btw. 1 that was pinched/curled/sick looks better now. The one that I have been talking about still looks the same. The body looks receeded.

The shrimps stopped picking on it which is good. I am beginning to regret starting my tank up again.

I hope the bugger doesn't die on me.
