Crosshatch Trigger Owners

I just kept calling both numbers. I was able to get in touch almost everytime I called. Ron Tubbs is the person I spoke with I think he is the owner.

Bill is that your townsend angel in your avatar? Gorgeous! Has he left the corals alone? I hope the female xhatch starts eating soon. Can't wait to see your tank fully stocked again.

The female started eating.....

I work for the electric company and we were hit with some bad storms this weekend. I have been working 16 hours days since Saturday. Yesterday was the first day I was able to go home when the tank lights were on so I put some PE Mysis in. They both sucked it up....

OK challenge number 2 I could use some suggestions with. Now that they are both eating like pigs.....another situation has arisen. Today I come home to find the female up as high in the tank as she can get. I looked at her close and her fins are torn up.....I guess the male is going after her thats why she is at the top and fins are a mess.....What should I do?????

My crosshatch trigger pair often does quite hectic damage to each other especially just before the lights go off and they do a mating ritual but if it isnt damage due to that then, it could be the aquarium is too small for them and they need more space

Mine also took a while to eat while in Quarantine and due to the small area did damage each other it is best to have them only with lights on while feeding while in Q time so they spend most of the time sleeping in a crevice and not beating each other up due to the small volume of space

this is them after Q in my main display

So yeah the sooner you get them outta Q and into your main display the less damage there will be they need a very large aquarium they are frenetic swimmers

OK thanks...I turned the lights out. I will start my treatments tomorrow. I am going to do Prazi pro first then large water change and 4 weeks of cuprmaine. What was your QT technique and for how long? They are in a 125......and will be going into a 300

Crosshatches have some WEIRD behavior....This morning I go down to check if the female is still up at the top of the tank still. I look up and see ......now the male at the top and the female back down in the PVC pipe. I am going to leave the lights off to hopefully calm things down a little. The tank still gets ambient light from the 300 sitting next to it. I am going to keep my fingers crossed that the male will stop tearing up the female long enough that I can get them thru all the treatments. I will start Prazi Pro this afternoon. Wait 5 days do a large water change, run carbon for a week then start my cuprmaine. So if all goes smooth they should be ready for the main tank in about 7 weeks......

I would really like to hear how others QT these fish.

You could divide the Q tank with eggcrate with one fish on either side but they can still see each other so the pair bond doesnt break but they cant hurt each other while in Q, mine were in q about 2 weeks but i used an intensive regime

The female is now in the PVC pipe but is not coming out. Not to feed or anything. I have been leaving the lights off during the day and just turning them on for a couple minutes to put food in. The male is eating no problem. The tank still gets light from the 300 next to it so its not real dark. I started the Prazi pro today. I was afraid that eggcrate would stress out the male because he likes swimming the entire lenght of the 125. Not sure what to do......Hopefully they will calm down....What was your aggressive QT method????

Honestly I think you should just remove them from the QT and into the display. If I were you, that is what I would do.

My Q procedure uses small plastic holding tanks of 50 litres in which i deworm the fish by adding dewormer to the food and every 2 days/ 48 hours i transfer them to a sterilized new container to break any parasite cycles of reinfestation, so it involves the transfer method.
Crosshatch triggers swim like crazy up and down that is why they need a big tank removing them from Q early may not be wise as they may introduce something which can wipe out your main display but these are expensive fish so it is your call ,at the end of the day , if you are going to Q them then you need to make sure they are kept in excellent water quality with very little stress, water quality must be as good if not better than your main display water- mine eat everything but they love squid and clams chopped into small pieces

In your pic the top of the female's tail fin looks damaged is that from the male or bacterial infection?

The fin damage originally stemmed from stress and started to clear up. Then the male went crazy on her and now they are all nasty looking. I will not take that chance and infect my main display. I am going to continue my treatment as planned and hope for the best. My water quality in the QT is decent. I do 50 gallon water changes on it every week. Like I said I did the Prazi treatment last night. I will give that 5 days then do a 50 gallon water change followed by a week of carbon. After that my plan is to start cupramine and get that to .5 over the course of a week then keep it there for 3 to 4 weeks. Then they can go in the display. I just have to keep my fingers crossed that the male stops harrasing the female.

Well the female was dead this morning.....So not sure if the stress from the male harrasing her killed her of the Prazi Pro treatment I put in on Wed. I took her out of the tank with my hand and put her on a paper towel. I looked at her fins and they were chewed up pretty good. When I moved her on the paper towel there was blood on it. Not sure what the blood could have been from????? Could she have had bad flukes and the prazi caused bleeding????

So far the male is still eating and swimming around. Now he has the entire 125 to himself....I will keep my fingers crossed that he makes it.....

Not sure what the blood could have been from????? Could she have had bad flukes and the prazi caused bleeding????

FW dip is the best/quick way to test for flukes especially with the dead fish. This way you will know whether it's in the QT or not and treat accordingly.

Best of luck with the male.

The tank is being treated with Prazi Pro....In my opinion better then a FW dip. I read that if a fish has a really large amount of flukes they can bleed out and die....Not sure if that is true or not but anything is possible..

According to JHemdal that is the case. He recommends a FW dip first and then Prazi later if a large case of flukes is present.

Could have been stress, something internal from collection or all combined. I treated both of my crosshatch with Prazi and I didn't have any issues. I didn't see any aggression between the two. The male would take a chunk of food in his mouth and the female would eat it while he had it in is mouth and still there was no aggression.

Too bad.

I got a large naso from Les too if that is who you got your triggers from. It took that guy 2 weeks to start eating. He was fat when he came in and by the time he started eating, he was nearly bones but now he is fattening up again. They come straight from the ocean without anytime in captivity to learn to take prep foods. He took a couple of nibbles of mysis on day 12 and everyday after that, he started eating more and more. It just takes time I guess since they have no previous history with people and being in captivity. Just have to be patient and provide them with food throughout the day. Eventually when they get hungry enough, they should start eating.

Good luck with those guys. They look amazing!

Fahad those crosshatch triggers never came from me please get your facts straight before dropping my name like that. All my fish are QT'd for two weeks and treated in formalin 3,Prazilpro, Cupramine, and furazone. They are eating before they get sold. If the fish does not eat within the two week QT It goes back to the ocean.I've worked really hard to build my reputation and take pride when I hear people say nothing but good things about my company I
don't need this kind of false facts to bring my reputation down. I'm sure you didn't mean it but please be aware of how damaging false statements can be.aloha Les
