Cryptocaryon Irritans - tank transfer method

I totally agree that doing ttm is totally worth it. That's how I started my 1st fish and will do so every fish afterward. Will I be 99% sure I never get ich, probably not but will continue to do it anyway. I just lost a bit of drive to go back up to the fish store to buy another fish atm since adding my last fish to the DT. Maybe next week :)

So I adjusted my transfer dates from 3 days down to 2 days in the middle, but went back to 3 days, but never had more than 72 hours between transfers.

Day 1 - start TTM
Day 4 - transfer
Day 6 - transfer
Day 9 - transfer
Day 12 - transfer

The question now is do I transfer it to the QT tomorrow on Day 13? Or wait a few more days?

Not sure how the shortened period on the second transfer would affect it. I would probably do one more transfer before the final transfer into QT just in case. Probably not necessary, but I'm super paranoid (I did 5 transfers on my Kole Tang just to make sure).

I think this Steve fella deserves a medal!

I've been taking in this thread from the 1st post to the current, and this guy has selflessly answered pretty much every concern / question raised! Hats off to the guy. The planet needs more Steve's!

Any number of cycles which are 72 hours or less totaling 12 days is fine.

That is very kind, thank you.

Just started my first TTM go yesterday. Would like to confirm if my plan is correct.

Day 1 (April 5): fish entered tank A at 2pm, added Prime
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4 (April 8): transfer fish to tank B at 6am (I leave for work at 7am)
Day 5
Day 6
Day 7 (April 11): transfer fish to tank A at 5am
Day 8
Day 9
Day 10 (April 14): transfer fish to tank B at 4am
Day 11
Day 12 (April 16): transfer fish to QT at 5pm

I realize the time of day is a bit early for the transfer days but I have to leave for work at 7am on weekdays so this is the only way to keep it under 72 hours between transfers. This should cover the 12 days rule and 72 hours rule.

I plan to add Prime on each transfer but don't plan to Prazi until QT.

I plan to just feed NLS pellets once every day around dinner time.

Currently I don't have lights on the tank and the room is pretty dark even in the day. Will that be okay? I do have some LED strip lights hanging around if they need it.

Salinity is at 1.026 for tank A, and all the saltwater has been mixed for enough usage during the whole process.

Hippo tang is already looking better (less white spots than before the transfer).

Please let me know if there's anything I need to correct. Thanks.

Sounds good,

Quick question for next qt I thought of as I am currently on day 10 of a TTM process. On day 13 I am transferring again for 3 days or less than 72 hours and then moving into qt where I plan to treat with prazipro then monitor 2-3 more weeks before adding to my display tank or longer as I am running the DT fallow 75 days.

So next time I purchase a fish should I stick to the same routine TTM then qt and treat with prazipro no matter what type of fish I get? I guess I am to just assume all fish from all lfs are going to have disease so it does not matter if I am picking up a tang, clown, blenny or goby just TTM and QT them all before going into display tank correct?

Absolutely correct. If you did not quarantine a fish, assume it has a parasite or two and prevent it from entering into your system.

Just did the 2nd transfer at 5am this morning. All fish have been doing well, eating fine and not displaying any abnormal activities. :D

Ok so I was in the middle of tank transfer..had just put fish into 2nd tank on day 4 and ended up in the hospital...I had arranged with my wife to do the next change on day 7 . Not sure why but she moved them the evening of day 6 instead. Now what???
Do I add an extra transfer or ??

Surprised nobody has responded to you. Looks like you should be ok according to this quote from Snorvich. Just carry on from here and do not do the final move out until at least day 12.

+1

it is up to you if you add a 5th transfer to extend to 12 total days (otherwise you would end on 11 days). i probably would since it really doesn't inconvenience me at all, but it really isn't necessary. all the trophonts (feeding parasites on the fish) would have jumped off the fish by Day 8. the final transfer is just an insurance transfer in the odd chance you get a freak parasite that hangs on longer OR in the case that the first transfer didn't go well.

Thanks for the feedback. Out of the hospital today and on the mend so need to get back to my Reef! (Thanks Spar)
So the 3 fish in QT were so far changed on day 4 & day 6. I will do on day 9, and 12. Have not decided if I should move to the main QT at day 12 or go for another 3 days and end up moving them their on day 15. One of the 3 fish is a wrasse and the other is a 5" Blonde Naso so being a tang want to ensure that Crypto is definitely gone if ever there. He appeared healthy on arrival but being a tang! They will spend another 4 weeks in a QT tank after the Tank Transfer is completed

Short cycles are not a problem (long ones are but extending the overall process fixes that). Sounds like you are doing fine! (kudos to your wife). While I try to keep this thread updated (Spar and Deinonych help a lot), I cannot always do so. (why no response sooner)

Snorvich, Thanks for the reply. I will add the extra transfer and move them to the QT tank on day 15 then.
I did not mean to sound impatient but laying in the hospital with nothing to do but stare at my IPAD was driving me nuts!:)
I am very impressed with how you manage to respond to all questions no matter how many times we ask the same things!

Ok so I did another transfer yesterday as suggested which was day 12. ~ 72 hours would put me into Wed (day 15) when I can move them to the 30 gal QT tank for the 4 to 6 week stay. Trouble is I just found out I have to go back into the hospital tomorrow afternoon for a couple more days. Would I be ok moving the fish tomorrow to the QT tank before I go which will be day 14 or should I try to have my wife move them on day 15?

Since one of them is a 5 " Blonde Naso I want to ensure that any ICH is gone! I have seen no signs of anything since I got them that would leave me to believe there is any issues. Have all eaten great for the last 13 days. Real pigs!
