CTARS Community Pico Reef Thread 1-8 gallons

Im going to try my AIO 2.5 gal desk pico. It crashed last time due to faulty heater and PC's making the tank too hot. I found some cheap lights on ebay which I will try. My issue is,

What heater do I use. I was thinking of the Jalli 25 watt with controller. Any thoughts

I heard the deep blue beta stick 7.5 watt is a good heater.... It's small and can heat up to 10 gallons, but some reviews online state that it can overheat the tank on warm days.... I would prob go with a temp controller just to be safe...

yes the 7.5 will overheat it seems to want to push above what ever ambient temp is. I prolly should try and find a controller of some sort.

2 month update. Things are going well , hooked up a dosing pump to my reef keeper lite that will take care of my alkalinity. Water changes take care of my calcium so I don't have to dose that. Still thinking of going to metal halide with this tank although I'm getting decent growth with the par 20 bulbs I think it could be better with tried and true halide.

Also here's the business end of the tank , filtration and flow are taken care of by a Aqueon AT20 internal filter , heater is a hydor theo 50 watt , ATO is jbj.

I gotta get busy on mine. Currently only have a antenna goby a sexy shrimp and a little cuc. A setosa frag may have made it in there as well. Did not realize that the goby would eat pods like this guy is he has got to be full.

You'd think...they never stop ;)

I recently put in my system a 6g for my cardinal pair. its just them and a longspine urchin. they've bred before so im hoping babies are in the future

I love this thread.

I have a 3 gallon I'll share with everyone when I get a few extra min. It has a few corals growing well but no permanent fish residing in it at the moment.

Well I went down to snap a pic or two, and my camera battery died haha. So here's one for right now. Was my first venture into actually building an acrylic tank as well. Sat for a few months when I couldn't figure out where to put it. When the basement sump went in, the return back to the tank was T'ed off and I threw this guy next to the sump.

That tank would be wicked as a macro display tank collin , get a cheapo par30 bulb or a cfl from home depot.

got one. just wanna wait to get another eb8 for down there. but already in the plan. perfect stock list too!

I might also try a few mangroves on the back wall. I want lots of baby fish hiding spots. less chance they end up in the sump

Make sure you have some liquid iron on hand if you go to mangroves , as a matter of fact i have some lying around i can give to amber at the meeting if you want!

I have a 4 gallon tank I'll show you guys soon. :)

Wow...apparently there's an echo is here. Or I'm sleep posting on the forum.

Here's a pic of what the tank looked like on the first day.

It's 5 gallons with no sand or rock, if filled to the top. So I figure 3-4 gallons with everything I have in there now.

Getting ready to set up a pico! Very excited! Thinking of going with a 5g. What type of livestock would be possible in here? If i get a standard 5.5g do you think the AC30 hob filter with chaeto would be too much flow?
