Get ready to cringe! Did some cleaning this weekend. Tossed ~150 frags in the garden of coral remains. One of these days I should get another tank instead of tossing all my frags in the garden of coral death. See if you can guess what coral is what. I now have only one of each coral in my tank. no duplicate frags everywhere. Everything is spaced out and can grow until I move the colonies to their final home.

Dude were they still alive? I would have taken them all
They were. I recently had a little spike in Ph due to me manually adding some kalk to my tank. No biggie. The corals were alive and still healthy, but I didn't want to ship them and I really REALLY needed to clean up the tank. I should be good for the next three months or so now.

Not cool bro. You could have given those away. Im sure someone would have appreciated them. That made no sense.

Hi Henry Style,

It actually does make sense for me. I have absolutely no extra time with my job. I have a strategy and planning position that consumes my life. The tank got to be cluttered with frags. When your tank is overgrown with frags, it becomes very time consuming. All it is, is regular trimming. Some of the large pieces that are not attached to the frag plugs end up in my Ca reactor. I sell enough coral to keep the tank running and toss the rest. Security is another big reason I do not give them away. You never know who your inviting to your home.

Warmest Regards,
James

It's 'ouch' to see them go.. Ouch that they aren't going into my tank..
One man's garbage is another man's riches...
I have to say I have done the same thing, maybe not on that scale but weeds are weeds, I guess..

The new, cleaned up tank looks great!!
It must have been a huge relief to declutter..

However!!! I'm a little disappointed by the fts!!
A little closer please!! :)

Hey Matt,

Yeah, I ended up deleting the pics of the tossed frags. Even though its just maintenance to me, some might be offended by the amount of coral I toss with my maintenance. I also trimmed back the corals to make room for a couple of new pieces that are in my tank. :) It is a huge relief to trim back the coral. I can now sit back and enjoy my tank and not have to worry about constantly moving frags around.

If you click on the pic, it should take you to the photobucket image. There you can zoom in on the pic and see all of the pieces up close. Let me know if you have any issues and I can try and post a bigger pic.

Happy Holidays,
James

I could see if they were dead but to just chuck living nicely colored frags is crazy to me. Imo.
I couldnt see myself doing that...

Sorry if I offended you, Henry. I really didn't mean to. I just wanted to post part of what I go through with my regular maintenance. I do sell some frags out of my tank. The frags that are not sold continue to grow and cause issues with the other corals. When everything grows out again, you will see how the corals fit together like a bonsai styled aquarium.

I hear what your saying but I cant just throw living corals away like that. I would have donated it or gave them away. Something...

Well now I understand why and to keep a healthy tank it had to be done. In another few months your reef will be a full blown garden again. It's always nice to learn from others and you are defiantly a true master at reef keeping. Sorry about the PH swing as I know what that looks like lol keep the pictures rolling as I always enjoy seeing your system.
Sorry about your work load as sometime life catches up to us and doesn't allow us to enjoy or true passions.
Keep in touch and thanks for the lesson.

Kind of like advising Picasso about his brush strokes...but I would sure like to be the happy apprentice that gets to take home the donut rejects. :D

Cuna! I can't condone what you did because i wanted frags LOL!!! But as Bobby Brown says "its your prerogative" I can do just what i feel!

YES Please keep those pics coming, looking forward to seeing more!

Awhile back you gave me some prices for your frags. I bet every frag I liked is in your backyard dead now. smh
Next time ship them to me. I will pay the shipping. no problem.
