Cupramine contaminated all that it touches?

I've heard that copper based medications such as cupramine contaminate all equipment it comes in contact with for life.

Any and all equipment exposed to cupramine should never be used in or near a reef tank.

Completely true? Part way true?

Even after cleaning?

Totally false, this is a myth that just won't die. Just rinse haters and other stuff well. Do not use rock or substrate; it will absorb & release Cu. Its probably a leftover from the days of metal frame and black sealant. Many LFS run copper 24/7/365. How would be possible? My 55 gal QT has seen at least 150 doses of copper, never had anything more than a quick rinsing and occasional use of Cuprisorb. Water will test '0" on any Cu test kit. Here's what SeaChem has to say: read the FAQ:http://www.seachem.com/Products/product_pages/Cupramine.html

+1 completely and utterly false claim. Just give them a good rinsing.

+1 see if you ask questions and read you can learn something new everyday:reading::fish1:

I agree that it's a myth as well. I have pumps and rubber tubing that i'm using in my display tank that has been through many copper tanks. Both Coppersafe and Cupramine. My corals are alive and well :)
