Custom 160 Build Thread - Finally!!

Thanks Al...howd you end up fixing your waterline issues finally? I knew I was going to have the same issue.

jgoal have you ran it with the return pump as it will raise the water line due to lag. i know you know this its just the picture is screaming stagnant water.

brians, that picture is actually with the return pump on and the sump running as well. Thats going to be my max water level. Unfortunately, its about a half inch difference.

As for flow, 2 MP40s will be back in the tank soon enough.

i havnt addressed the waterline issue yet :p i still have alot to do till the setup is complete and i figure that will be one of the final things i do

wow george........ only a year later lol .......... any one that says you don't have patients is crazy just show them your fish tank lol I had to give you that one ya know

Looking good so far :eek1::p:p:p:p:p

lol...not quite one year yet......but ill probably get there before its all done...

i wish it was my patience that held me off this long and not everything else that comes up from day to day........but that said....im somewhat glad its taken this long....while i still made some mistakes in planning, it helped me avoid quite a few others.....

A few more things done...

A few more things done...

Finally got around to fixing the canopy so that the water level doesn't show. I actually think the canopy looks better overall with the new trim than without. It brings the top of the canopy together with the bottom.

I'm pretty sure this is how I will be laying out the lights. I still have moonlights to add and as you can see there isn't much room so Ill have to come up with something for that.

It's probably still going to be a while before I mount the lights because I still haven't found a good solution to reworking the canopy so that it opens from the front.

The problem is that the crown molding on the top doesn't allow you throw the front back over the canopy lid.

I thought about making it come like a drawer but the slit on the side would look terrible and again because of the crown molding there is no good way to cover it up.

Im going to talk to another carpenter and see if he has any ideas and if not Im just going to go with what I've got. It will be a HUGE PITA while stocking the tank but after it's all settled it won't be too bad hopefully.

If anyone has any ideas shoot them over.

Jorge- Thats one of the nicest pices of furniture I have ever seen. IMHO- Dont mess with it. How oftern are you going to work on the lights ever 6 months? Buy a ladder.

So I just read the whole thread it may be going slow but its a very nice setup.
The stand looks great. I agree with AquamanE get a ladder

Thanks guys.

And I think youre right Eddie and Cvd55 (btw, nice numbers ;) ). I think what I am going to do is leave it alone and only make a little door in the front panel to make daily feeding easier. I think that can be done and still have it look real nice.

Wait...so your saying the front does not open either? If that is case the problem i see is not your lights but maintenance, adjusting corals etc. Plan for that. I dont need to tell you we stick our hands in the tank almost daily for some reason or another. :worried2:
