cut finger underwater - treatment?

I was stacking some rock and poked my finger pretty good. There are no corals in the display, some xenia, shrimp, and a clown in a connected frag tank. its a very minor poke, lost a little blood into the tank, removed a 1/4"+ needle like thing, rinsed, pushed some blood out in an amateur attempt to get anything bad out, threw some rubbing alcoholic on it. is there anything else I should do to prevent an infection? I would like to resume stacking tomorrow :)

thanks!

I would considder amputating the remainder of the finger and soaking it in a salt and vinegar solution for 15 minutes.

-It sounds like you did everything correctly to prevent infection. If you are still concerned, throw on a rubber glove and stick a rubberband around the top to prevent water from entering if you want to continue your rock stack. Good luck

I'm sure its nothing, sometimes its good to error on the side of caution. I put some triple anti-biotic ointment on it and a band aid. I off to bed with an alarm set in a couple hours to check up on it.

stack can wait, no sense rushing after waiting this long to make sure the tank cycled!

My paranoia stems from working with some zoas a few months back and ending up with a shut eye for 3 days :(

This happens to me all the time. There is always a risk of infection but if you wash it with soap and put some antibiotic cream on it, it will heal fast.

Same thing happened to me not too long ago right in one of the creases where your finger bends. I thought I got all of the tiny tube out but then it started getting inflamed, red and wouldn't bend. I got out a needle to open the original wound back up and soaked the finger in a cup of hydrogen peroxide for 3 hours. Finger was back to normal the next day.

It might be good to tell your other what exactly happened so when she finds you unconscious on the floor she can give the er doctors an idea where to start looking...I'm sure it will be ok, though I did I almost loose a finger or worse from a Red Hind stab. Just be cautious; any signs of infection and you may want to get in and get some antibiotics.

had a friend who got stung/slimed by zoas in a deep cut and wound up in the ER short of breath close to entering anafylactic shock, scary how toxic some stuff is

sounds like this aquascaping is worth it price in blood, can't wait to see it! :)

It's been a road of ups and downs. I will say i have learned a lot. I would like to go back to what I called stack V2, though I haven't been able to recreate that one and the last couple looked pretty bad :thumbdown
