d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

Great idea!

Great idea!

I heard of a better method of removing mantis shrimps, I did this myself & it worked! Take the offending rock out of the water, & place it in a large bucket, take a large dc source, I used a car battery charger & shocked the rock. Never saw a mantis fly before:uzi::uzi::uzi:

That is original...very good idea....and does not hurt the rock!

Awesome!!

Make sure you wear gloves and use the clamps that come with the charger, dc current is much stronger that ac current, so be very cautious when doing this. Do I need to place a disclaimer on this?

And if you think about....DC current is what they use to shock fish when doing wild collection for research...temporary incapacitation....with no mortality......so seems plausible....

Funny you should ask.
I noticed a slight drop in salinity today so I recalibrated the pumps.
The one pumping in fresh saltwater calibrated quite a bit differently than the first time around. The second pump calibrated pretty much identical to the first time. So that might be the problem. If the amount of fresh sw being pumped in was less than the amount of old sw being pumped out, the RO top off water would lower my salinity over time.
The salinity of my fresh sw is now higher than my DT, so hopefully this correction in pump calibration will slowly raise the salinity. Then i can bring the fresh sw salinity down to match the DT and it should hold steady.

I don't want to point fingers, but i think my wife was looking at the wrong markings on the measuring cup the first time around, while i was in the other room controlling the calibration menu on the LM3. :p

The automated water change system is quite impressive. This is the biggest all out build I've seen on this site yet.

I meant the fish and corals. Are they liking the quality of your water? any substantial difference?

I realize that, but if something as simple as my salinity is not stable, how can i give you proper feedback on the overall response of the tank? ;)

But that said, so far everything is still doing great.
Just remember that the wc system has only been in place for a week or two and the tank as a whole has only been up and running for a little over two months. Still plenty of time to go before I can really say how it's doing. :)

hey dennis,
i love your stand. any chance that the guy who built it for you would be willing to build one for me? and ship it?

also, i'm sure you've mentioned it, but what are your tank dimensions?

D2, have you put any SPS in your system yet or are you planning on letting it mature before you do. If so how long do you think until your system is mature enough for SPS? Do you even believe in that?

i apologize dennis. i reread the beginning of your thread and i found the dimensions.

Thanks!
I dunno, but I would think it would be a lot more cost effective to look around your area for a cabinet builder or check the local clubs for handy people. That's what i did. :)

I just added a couple small frags of sps, so we'll see how they do.

that star looks like its made from suede...great pics!
Haha, ya he does look like suede. :D
Thanks!

Here's another fts. I still have to replace the baseboard molding to cover the water changes lines.

D2, I just purchased a 8x54w ATI powermodule and I have to hang it from the ceiling. How did you hang yours? Did you hang it directly from the ceiling joists or did you use something else? I am at a complete loss on how to hang my fixture, I have regular drywall ceiling. Could I use the butterfly drywall clips? The fixture is 40lbs, says shipping.

i lucked out and had joists right where i needed them.
That NEVER happens!!!

But otherwise you need to use some really good toggle bolts or something.

I ended up using a combo of the supplies that came with my fixture and the sunlight supply hanging kit.
