Beautiful setup- Love the pics. What substrate are you using? I dont recall seeing it... is it Special Grade?
Thanks,
Todd
You should consider placing a watermark on your reef pics...
Thanks!
It's whatever substrate is sitting at the bottom of the gulf off the coast of Florida.![]()
How's the litermeter working for you? How many gallons per day are you changing? I noticed you performed a large water change with RC....but on an ongoing basis what are your plans..?
As in real live sand that I collect from the Gulf of Mexico...is the real thing...full of everything from Coraline clumps, shell fragments, sand and everthing else that makes it to the bottom, to make a very live sand.
I collect it with a dustpan, just skimming the top of the ridges the currents make....where all the life is. Is actually harder to harvest sand than it is live rock...slow process to get the right thing. But worth it as it is an instant start biologically. Is why you can use the Package to start a new tank......real live sand, and some rock...and the tank usually cycles in a week, then part two of the rest of the rock and critters is easily added.
Makes for a usually painless start for a tank..

It's easier to get pushed over the edge with rimless.Awesome tank, I've long since considering going rimless cube for my next tank and I think you helped push me over the edge.
I do have central ac so the house is a constant temp year round. I have trouble keeping the tank as high 79 degrees and that's with two heaters. I have one 250w mh and 4 T5's.The only thing I didn't see in your setup is a chiller. Do you have enough open surface space that the MH don't dramatically increase water temps? In my current 75g my 2x250w MH raises the water temp by as much as 6-8 degrees in the summer though I'm sure lacking central air doesn't help.

Pun intended :lol2:
Would you be willing to share the approximate cost of just the tank from your builder? I'll likely look to a local builder, but I'm at a loss of what appropriate pricing for a rimless tank is.
haha, well I'm glad I could contribute to your lack of work ethic.![]()
So I had the stand built by a local Houston reefer. He did a fantastic job. It was his idea to do single large panel doors with no hardware instead of the split doors on my design.
We did doors on 3 sides and I left one side solid because I knew I'd want one wall to hang stuff on the inside. The acrylic strips will be one of the last things i do.
The tea bottle is for scale.

d2mini,
What kind of wood did he use and also do you know what stain. I really like the look of the stand and I am thinking about finishing my new one the same way. Thanks
Mine skimmed at first, but then took me a while to get going. It was put straight into the brand new tank, wasn't much to skim after the initial set up. No fish, corals etc. Took some tweaking of the water level to get it right, too. I think mine is now in about 6-3/4" of water. Everyone's tank is different. John is great to talk to though so give it some time and let him know what it's doing and he should get you all hooked up.
