d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

What kind of wood did he use and also do you know what stain. I really like the look of the stand and I am thinking about finishing my new one the same way. Thanks
Pine frame with birch ply. And custom mixed stain.

I'm running the itech on the 3rd notch, what about you? The water level is midway on the exit pipe which is 7 1/2 inches. Jim says the base on mine is thicker, hence the deeper water
Mine's around the 4th notch. My water level is similar.

Just wondering, where did u get your acrylic strips for your stand?
At my local plastic supply. It's clear. I back-painted it with spray paint.

Thanks, it's getting there. Still letting the water mature before i add a lot of stuff.
Had some issues recently trying to add an sps and a leather. Neither did well.

What a top setup m8 luv the last fts. What do you think of the aquaphoton light fixture as im looking at getting one for my new 3ft cube in optiwhite. Do you get enough light coverage all over the tank. My system will be very similar to yours but mine will have a 4" gap running along the back split into 3 equal sections. Centre will be the weir then either side will be the dry chambers for my mp40's.

I like the light a lot.
Completely silent, looks badass, and so far works great.
It's a 24" fixture over a 36" tank so i just need to be careful where I choose to place corals. But i like having shaded areas for the lower light stuff around the sides rather than an evenly lit tank.

Hi Dennis i took the plunge and got the photon plus 400w. Had a result as its got the T5 dimmable ballast installed. And you are right it looks the nuts cant wait now for the cube.

Thanks, mnml!

Here's a mini brain that i found in my tank. No idea how it got there!
It's about the size of a dime.

Your photography and editing skills are amazing! I think this is one of my favorite "reef-related" photos to date.

Is there any chance of you posting specs of the photo (aperture, shutter, etc.)? If not, feel free to defer to them being trade secrets :smokin:

I would say Diploastrea sp. A very nice "find".

Thanks. :)
It's no secret... all the info is in the EXIF.
The exif for that one shows: manual exposure, 1/160 sec, f/8, ISO 1000.
I try to keep the iso as low as I can, adjust shutter speed for what I'm shooting and try to close down the aperture as much as I can for more detail but since i needed a shutter speed that was fast enough to stop some motion, f/8 was as small as I could go. Could have upped the iso to get a smaller aperture but I didn't want to risk adding noise. And the shallow focus is ok with me.

I think you're right about the coral being Diploastrea!

Great looking photo and Scooter, does he/she feed on prepared food? I've always wanted one but wasn't sure how finicky of an eater they are.

Hard to say yet.
I usually feed Rod's Food and most of it is the same color as my substrate. When i feed, the food falls to the bottom and both the scooter and my purple starfish come out to eat. But i haven't figured out yet if the scooter is actually sucking rod's food off the substrate or not. It's easier to see with the star because the food is stuck to his tentacles.
