d2mini's 130g Rimless Cube

Nice Tank

Nice Tank

Greetings from over the pond. My wife and I are amazed about your very good setup of the tank and integration to the room, our compliments.

You inspired me to setup a german version of this tank, probably I got some probs with the rimless silicone, ´cus in the are some messages of silicone eating brittleworms in the german forums.

If i have some questions about the cabinet, I hope that I could ask you about technical details of the inner wooden construction.

:spin2: you run a german Eheim 1260 for the tankcycling ?

Your pics are awesome, look out for Oggles Mesoscope or the cheeper Nanoscope from TerraNovaPro.

Greetings and thank you for all the pictures.

How is the ATO/water change system working out?

I am very tempted to set one up.

Cheers
Do it.
It's running like a top.
A "water change" for me now consists of tossing in a 50g bag of salt and running the transfer pump for 5 minutes or so to transfer water from the fresh side to the salt side. That's it. I'm now good for almost 2 weeks.
You just have to keep an eye on your salt levels.
Let me know if you need to come check it out in person.

Very nice tank and build thread. Congrats!
Thanks!

d2mini, first off i love the tank....have actually been pondering the same size tank before i came across your thread. I just have a quick question, your return pump...an eheim 1262 correct? Does the 5/8 outlet pose a problem....ive always used 3/4 cause it seems to be the easy standard size for outfitting mag pumps and such. Also is that eheim dialed down?

Thanks
Dennis

Actually, i just screwed a pvc coupler right on to it, no problem.
You can see the couplers in the pic. Threaded on the pump side and slip on the other side.
It's running wide open.

how do you have your BRS dual reactor sponges setup and what is the reason for not running the two on top and one on the bottom for Im guessing the GFO side?

-Chris

In this pic, the ROX Carbon is on the left and the GFO is on the right.
The carbon needs to stay compacted so there is a sponge holding it to the top (along with the water flow) and the GFO needs to tumble a little so it needs room at the top.

Why does the carbon need to stay compacted? Do you run your inlet of your reactor into the GFO side first? I have problems around the 3 week mark of the sponges getting clogged and flow slowing down alot. I need to change them out soon. Probably because of this situation will change out 1 cup of GFO / Carbon 1x every 3 weeks. thats for a 75gal SPS and a 20 gal refuge. I feed heavy. You?

The carbon needs to be compacted because you don't want it tumbling around and breaking down. The water enters the gfo chamber first. Sometimes i too notice that i need to up the flow a little to keep the gfo tumbling.

Dear Dennis I am wondering if I can take the sponge for my Ehime return pump like you do but have you had any problems like cheto stuck in there?

So i got 3 boxes today when picking up Part I of The Package from TBS for my new Nano build. So i get home and one box is the rocks, one box is the sand..... and then when I opened the third box, it was FREAKIN FULL of all these goodies for my 130g cube!!!!! Richard is so FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! :D
