d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

I'm looking at Triton now (thanks for the links).

Did you ever consider an algae reactor (ARIAD) instead of a large fuge? I'm worried that my fuge in my new sump won't be large enough for Triton, hence the inquiry into ARIAD.

I believe its A.R.I.D?
Anyway, I have seen those, and of course I'm familiar with the various algae scrubbers.
I just prefer the refugium. Seems easier to me. And cheaper. Plus you get other benefits like somewhere to grow pods and various kinds of macros, which Triton suggests since different macros absorb different elements.
But if you are short on space, I'd definitely go with either of those vs nothing at all. Definitely a nice option to have.

Agreed. I'm going to see how much space I end up with the fuge.

I think you can run multiple types of macros in the ARID (good catch on the name) but cheato is prefered.

The ARID systems also seem ridiculously expensive. I know, so much in this hobby is, but those seem excessive.

Hi, thanks for posting! :)
Glad you are able to get some help from my threads. Always good to hear that.

Unfortunately ReefCentral holds grudges and won't let me link you to the other major reef forum where TritonUSA has a sponsor forum. There are some good threads there that you may find useful.
You can also take a look at this Triton For Dummies article. Gives a pretty good explanation of the whole thing.

Thanks for the info on Triton. I read the dummy guide and it is very interesting. I definitely would like to give it a shot. Do you think you could feasibly combine this with using a Zeovit reactor? I know that one of the main things with the Triton Method is using a large fuge with macro algae which is hard to do with the low nutrient environment. I'm just curious if you think it might be possible though since I got a Zeovit reactor for pretty cheap when I bought a bunch of other stuff from a guy off CL and wanted to give it a shot too.

UPDATE 5-21-16

We be in bidness! :bum:

And whatta ya know.... no leaks. :D

Hey Dennis, question bout your ATO. I want to see if our minds are still workin the same. Mine goes from the photo sensor to the pump. I'm interrupting the pump line with a float switch. Is that what you're doing also?

I wouldn't combine them. K.I.S.S.

Not sure I understand exactly.
Mine is just a GHL level sensor (you can use float or optical) that is plugged into my Profilux. It's not DIY. When the level sensor is tripped by the low water level, the Profilux turns on the socket that my pump is plugged into. When the water level gets back up, it turns off that socket.

Today i realized the water level in my tanks is higher than the water level in my sump. Duh!
So instead of the little Sicce pump, I'll be using my little Cole Parmer peristaltic pump. No siphon issues that way.

Nice, Super sleek.
Thank you :)

oh yeah, I'm so ready to see the TBS go in :)
Me too.

Gotta feel good!
^^^ What he said. ;)

Man you work quickly. Congrats on getting wet!
Nice work Dennis. You knocked that out quick.

The last two months have felt like an eternity! :p

Is that a scratch on the tank????????? j/k lol :p:p
don't even go there! lol

Haha... my brother has your dog. profanity removed
I saw your post before it got edited. lol
Actually, Wally is a big goofball. He's an Australian Labradoodle, not full poodle.
He's only a pain in the butt because we can't leave ANYTHING out on the counters food wise, or he will eat it. Even if it's sealed in tupperware. Takes food from my kids, too. :headwallblue:

The less poodle the better! Hopefully he doesn't have an appetite for fish!!

My ATO really isn't a DIY. It's just I don't know if I can fully trust an optical sensor yet. When the sensor calls for the pump to come on, if the float doesn't prove it, it can't. Once both say go it will. Just a little bit of redundancy.

Congrats on getting her up and running. How quiet is the new Elos overflow? Any issues plumbing the drain or return lines?
