d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

The Radions no longer use the large white power supplies, and have switched to 7"x3" black bricks.

You can see the three of them mounted to the board between the Vectra controller and the battery backup.

This was a WELCOME change for sure.

That's a huge improvement!

Nice! So did they change anything with the actual light since that version came out a few years ago? I haven't kept up with it at all.

AFAIK, the power supplies are the only major change, but the rumors that I've seen floating around the forums are a Gen 4 release for MACNA.
Ecotech has not been resting on their laurels.

Yeah that makes sense seeing as I upgraded both my lights from the Gen1 to the Gen 3 Pros exactly a year ago today.
That new power supply looks great though. The old ones are a space hog for sure.
Wonder if they are available to swap out through the parts store?

Yes, I believe they are available for purchase.

Might be hard to justify if your current ones are working though.

Hey Dennis, are you only running 1 vortech?

I wish my Radions had the smaller battery packs. Trying to figure out how to mount the larger white versions is going to be a challenge.

I just realized our tanks and sumps are nearly identical. Stealing lots of ideas.

Those sump photos. Speechless. You're just going to ruin it by adding all that water....
Haha, thanks. It's all down hill from here. ;)

Also, what is the size of your power center board?
Yes, right now just one Vortech.
Elos promises lots of flow so we'll see how that goes.
The extra return at the bottom should help. I have plans to extend it towards the center of the tank and then point it towards the front glass.

If I remember correctly, the board is in the neighborhood of 24" tall by 20" wide. Give or take.

Can you tell me what is red pipe for in third chamber

That's the first chamber. The refugium section.
The water flows down from the display and into that pipe which serves two purposes. First, it should reduce turbulence by spreading the output out across the length of the pipe. And second, it acts as a spray bar that should create a gyre and keep the chaeto ball rotating.

Perfect. Thanks. I'd love to get away with only 1 Vortech, but I guess we will see how it works out.

I can't look at pictures in this thread while in the same room as my tank. Even a dry sump picture makes it feel inadequate and it threatens to stop working. My skimmer asked me why I don't love it anymore.

What are the red topped bottles for?!? They look so cool I feel that I need them regardless of the function lol.

I suspect your dosers feed into them and they somehow help disburse the fliuds?

Enlighten me :)

Those are his dosing containers! I believe he goes over them in the thread.

They just hold the concentrate then? Those are pretty small....those would last about a 3 days in my old sps tank lol. That is why I got away from dosing and went with CaRx instead.

Yes, if you read the thread, I've explained what they are, how I made them and discussed their size.
My old 200 reef was using nearly 300 ml a day in Alk so I too switched to a CaRx.
Unfortunately a CaRx complicates the Triton Method so this tank will be strictly dosing the Triton Elementz, which get mixed up in 10 liter batches. I have mixing/dispensing jugs for those in the garage which I'll post later. For dosing containers, these will do ok for now. Once the tank is thriving and sucking up trace elements I'll look into something bigger. This setup cost me about 20 bucks so it's good for now. ;)

Long time lurker, first time posting on your threads. Typically don't post because everyone else is saying it - amazing build! Looking forward to it coming to life.

Man, when did Radions start using the black bricks vs white powder supplies? We have 5 gen 3 pros produced in Nov 15 and have whit supplies [emoji19].

I really like the "surprise" leds for your tank, since it will once and for all answer what everyone needs to know: can leds really do as well as we expect(and as promised).

1- If it does well, then we should all be confident in the technology, you have a brand new tank docummenting all steps. Everyone should be able to witness its progress.

2- if the sps seem short of coloration or growth expectations after months or years, then try a different light and documment any changes.

Either way, a call from Ecotech was noble and worth a try!
Good luck
