d2mini's "Essential Focus" Mixed Reef Build

Serious question, why have something in your sump you rarely see, have to feed, and adds waste products to your ecosystem?
The reason I ask is I'm wondering if I should be putting something in MY sump....
Or is it simply not a big effect on bio-load and cool to have?

Because he was a gift and he's cool.
No... you should not. ;)

It would be cool to set up a small tank for him. Of course I say this as lots of "small" tanks are showing up in my basement....

Here's my two week old tank. lol ;)

Your tank looks so clean! Do you have to do anything specific to keep your glass clean or does your tank pretty much just keep the glass clean for you?

Dennis - I just noticed that you have your vortechs placed one on the side and one on the back. What flow do you have those running? Do you find it to throw more random flow setting them on the glass this way?

I wish. I clean the front and sides every other day with the Tunze Care magnet.

Tank looks great Dennis. Dennis, what happened to the light rack you made using 80-20?
I got rid of that thing years ago when I switched to the MH/t5 fixture.

They run a mix of lagoon at night, reef crest, pulse mode, and nutrient export mode during the day. Controlled by the Profilux.
I was originally going to run both on the back glass, but felt I needed more movement across the tank.

Hi Dennis, it sound like you were not happy with the 80-20 light rail. I just purchased 3 Mitras lx7's and wanted to hang them on a rail system similar to the one you got rid of. Can you tell me if you were happy with it and if not why? Any suggestions for a better way to hang these lights? I don't like the Mitras hanging system. Thank you.

I wish I had an Apex to control the flow rate at night and throughout the day. I rely on the Ecotech software to provide the randomness I need. But maybe that's not enough. Both my vortechs are currently on the sides of the tank and pointed to each other using different flow patterns. I find in the middle of the tank where the flows meet, it creates a downdraft of movement that is constant which is why I asked. I want to try to change that as much as I can.

Appreciate your response

It was fine. I just didn't need it with the new light system i used over that tank.

If you are hanging mitras, they have only two holes in line down the center of the fixture. The Radions have 4.... 2 and 2 in a square pattern, so it worked well with a rectangular 80/20 frame. You would need a center rail added to it to hang the Mitras.

Or use a wire hanging kit.

EcoSmart Live does the same thing.
I just don't like using it so I'd rather use the Profilux.
