That is way cool!

Thanks!
And yes, that's a spare piece of your rock in there. ;)

Wow, that's an amazing looking frag tank. Nice frags and nice lighting! You are going to need a second one soon.

Is that a 40B? I'm curious to hear why you didn't drill it and used a HOB overflow? Do you prefer the overflow for this use? -- it looks like one of Jeff's, which means it'll be rock solid.
haha, well i figure i can probably fit about 80 frag discs per rack so that should be good for a while. ;)
Yep, it's a 40b with a 24" Hamilton Cebu Sun over it.
And yeah, that's a LifeReef overflow.
I was originally going to drill it and then I was like, "why???".
It's in the fish room so I didn't see the point. It's not like I needed to hide plumbing. This was much easier.

Here's another shot under actinic only.
I have a few mangrove seeds in the overflow waiting on the mangrove tank to arrive.

And I picked up a big softball sized bunch of chaeto from a friendly local reefer today.
I usually don't have much luck with this stuff so we'll see how it goes!

Nice use of the fragging tank. LOL

How are water tests?
:D

hmmmm... i should probably do some tests!
Alk is good though. 7.95 tonite.

If you have the Profilux, why not use it to do WC's via centrifugal pumps?
I used to run normal hobby pumps controlled by the profilux before i tore everything down.
But my sump was raised.
Now with the sump basically on the floor and my water tanks a few feet off the ground, it's too low so I need to use peristaltic pumps, otherwise I get a siphon and the water keeps flowing into the sump.
Still using the level sensors to control it.

If your cheato grows then I will try it out too. I have zero luck.

I am running a ATS now to make up for bad cheato growing skills. The ATS is doing wonderful.

I'm mixed on that bulb/fixture for growing macro but may just have to give it a go since it's only like $66 :) hope you don't mind me borrowing the idea

Yeah, go for it. :)
It was recommended to me by a couple people in the RC macro algae forum.
Chaeto likes a warmer light whereas many of the fancier acros like a bit more blue.

Thanks!

Hey Dennis love both of your builds. Definitely an inspiration for all of us.

Quick question and I know you just got the frag tank up, but any issues with the 250w and LPS in the 40 breeder?

I'm debating between 150w and 250w on a 20" deep tank. Concerned the 250w will be too much light.

Is that a shadow or did you put a mat under the tank?

A mat.

My frogspawn is loving it.
As with any lighting just be careful with placement and the height of your lights. My display is 24" tall so not much more and I have some of everything in there.

After a few months of work, it sure is nice to FINALLY have a reef to take pics of again. :bounce1:
So here's a few new pics!

This guy joined the family not long before the tear down so I never had a chance to shoot his mug. So here's his first pic...

And some of the coral that made it through the process...

Been so fraggin busy getting the fraggin frag tank stocked with fraggin frags. :)
Lots more to frag, too.

This looks a lot like my LFS. You need to get one of those coloured markers to circle corals on glass and write their prices.
