Dan's new 120 gallon!

Alright, good news! I sold my old 6 foot tank and got the new tank put where it belongs! But, I am going out of town this weekend and wont be back until Monday so no water yet. I plan on doing the plumbing next weekend though :)

I have a question on lighting....

I currently have 2 250watt SE MH and was thinking about upgrading to 2 400 watters! Would this be overkill on a 120g? or will the 250's cut through the 24 inches of water ok?

Yeap, way overkilled

ditto, 250's cut to the bottom of my 30" tall just fine, if you want more light just go with 3 250's with the luminarc minis. You will get much better light spread rather than 2 bright spots, but the 400's do have some sweet bulbs to choose from.

what should I do about water movement?

My thoughts were leaning towards a TUNZE Turbelle stream Kit TS12
comes with 1 TurbelleÃ"šÃ‚® stream 6101 (3,170 gph)
+ Singlecontroller 7091

or a TUNZE Wavebox

What would work better on a 4 foot tank?

I picked up a 65 gallon glass tank for my sump, and am debating whether I need to add baffles and refugium, or go with Northbay-reefers suggestion and not use them. I am just affraid of having micro bubble get back to the display.

If I used baffles to block the bubbles I could get 3 sections with about 15 gallon per section and have 15 to 20 gallons open for water when the return is turned off. Is there even a point in having a refugium that small?

The wavebox is secondary to other flow and is not replacement for conventional powerheads/closed loop. I'd go with a controllable stream first.

Also, I've heard that the wavebox doesn't work very well on tanks shorter than 6 feet.

that answers the question on water movement, thanks :)

as for the fuge, I dont have the room for a fuge unless its in my sump, so unless I section off the sump I would not have a fuge.

I just created my sump with baffles so I know I won't deal with micro bubbles. I'll be using a filter sock as shown with LR in the first section, 2nd section is where my G3 skimmer will be in and third is going to go to my external pump. I still need to cut a whole but i did it before so it shouldn't be too bad.

*** Get two silicone tubes just incase one is defective. I bought only one and rather going out from the front it came out from the back! It was a night and I didn't want to wait so I just used my fingers to slap it on there. Reminded me of the elementary school days with elmers glue. But thats if you decide to go with baffles. Good luck

I made my last sump and it worked fine so I know I could do it again, but according to Tham, I don't need baffles. I have seen his tank a few times and he gets zero microbubbles back to his tank so I know it can be done but I am just worried.

Are you going to have sand in your tank? I loved my ocean motion but had to get rid of it because sand would get stirred up and it would jam up the drum.

I have about 2 or 3 inches of sand but I don't know how much water movement it would take for a sandstorm. I am using a 1200gph return thats pushing up 5 feet vertically so I know I am loosing head there, so I could run the OM on a closed loop with an external pump up to 2500 gph to make up for the flow or I could just add power heads like the tunzes I mentioned earlier or even add a vortech if I save up.

SO MANY CHOICES!!!
