Danskim, are you keeping Nori in the tank? See if tying some to a rock will get his interest. BTW, Thanks for helping my friend out :)

Yeah, I feed a bit of nori everyday, but only the other tangs eat it. I'll try attaching it to a rock since he doesn't swim too high up yet.

How high of a wave are you getting with your wave box?

About 1-1.25" I'd say. It's not very high, but it does do a good job of wave action which is especially noticeable when I press the "Feed" button on the 7095.

Hey Dan,

BTW, be prepared, I'm going to bombard you with questions for the next year or so as the system I'm planning is eirly simular to yours :D

On that note, how do you like the Powermodules? Are they worth the extra $ over the Constellations, IYO? Do you feel the spread is enough for your dimensions?

Thanks for your help,

No problem, I'd be glad to help.

I really like the PowerModules. I haven't tried the Constellation fixture to compare. However, as far as I could tell from the product page, the Constellation does not overdrive the bulbs and has only 2 fans. The two fans could be stronger and quieter than the Powermodules' 4 fans, but I am not sure. Overdriving does mean more output though.

I'm sure that definitely some of the cost is because it's German-made and imported (carries costs too especially because of bad Euro-Dollar exchange right now).

But I think for your use, you'll probably want to go with the PowerModule or either Giesemann or Sfiligoi fixtures because of the width of the tank. Constellations only come in 7 bulb wide fixtures, right?

I wasn't aware that the Powermodule was an overdrive fixture. I thought the only one was the Solar Flare. I'm considering it as well.

I thought this as well. i was under the impression that it had higher par because of it's cooling system. I could be wrong though. I'm a MH guy. :)

Whoops, I guess I could be wrong with the overdriving part. Now that I think about it, I think I remember reading that in a thread a long time ago before they were out in the US.. but that might be that it was using more wattage than it was rated but not necessarily overdriven.

I will snap a few more shots tonight.

Powermodules are not overdriven. I think the higer PARs are due to their reflectors and individual active cooling fans

Yeah I asked ReefGeek if they were overdriven, and they responded that they are not.
I knew they gained performance from the fans and reflectors, but I just thought I remembered that they were overdriven too... but I remembered wrong :)

I'm not really sure if I'm sold on the overdrives anyway. Kills the life of most bulbs and are they really anymore efficient when it comes to PAR/watt and factor in additional heat and fan power to cool them?

Efficiency is one of my top priorities for my next system

Hi Clay. You can go to my blog by clicking my red house, and it's listed on the equipment page. I think I mentioned it in a previous post, but I can't remember where it is.

Chris, the left side has the overflow, two Tunze Streams, and the Wavebox. I figured I didn't need it to be Starphire.

I can shoot the sand bed, but it's different in different places. In the front center, there are larger pieces from the ARM I put down. The right is more silty because that's where the Aragmax was mostly put, but I mixed it with the SeaFloor special grade. The left side is almost all SeaFloor special grade.

I posted this a few pages back, but you can see the SeaFloor special grade in this one:

Cool thanks danskim, this pic works fine!

Back to that left side, you were able to request glasscages to build that overflow wherever you wanted right? From those early pics, I didn't see the acrylic cover, looks like you had that as part of your order? It got added from what I can tell now.

You also said you'd choose a different builder? Is the tank that bad? Budget a key for me, and I know GC has some good prices, compared to A.G.E etc...but the tanks are just not as "nicely" built?

Yeah, I told them where to put the overflow and how large it would be.
And yes, I ordered the acrylic cover from them, but it was not included in the construction pictures.

The tank is not that bad, but it could be better especially in the details (silicone, edge grinding/polishing). Also their customer service is not pleasant to deal with. Have you gotten some quotes? The difference may not be as drastic if much bigger than mine.

I got one quote, for a 120gal, but I had some outrageous closed loop system in the design, and it had about 9 holes drilled in it, so a 120 gal cost about the price of a 300 gal...I since then have gone back to the drawing board on my tank designs, and I'm not going to do the CL system, nor do I have the room for a tank the size of yours, its very unique and I love your tank, but I can't afford all that right now.

I'm going to dip my toes in the 75,90,120 size and go from there.
Maybe one day I'll have to move up to that size! Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing your artwork with us!
