danskim's 300g rimless starphire

Yes, i meant along the wall because i am always thinking of grow out room for mangroves. I like them. But you might not. They don't do a whole lot at small quantity but they please me.
I think your right about the removal ease and am not against the cylinder. rectangles just please our eye better. The brute is taking up some space though. With a good size refugium you could use a 5 gallon salt bucket for the RDSB and still achieve the same results with less real estate loss.

Hmm.. yeah. I was also thinking maybe two or three 5 gallon buckets running inline as the RDSB too.
I'll try a few combinations to see what saves space best.

Danskim, have you read up on RDSB's? I think they are recommending a 5gal. bucket per 100 gal. of medium stocked tanks. To small and they really won't do what there supposed to. Might want to check into that further if you haven't already.

Yeah, I read the whole thing. I know 1 bucket is way too small for my system. So 3 is cutting it close. That's why I have the 20g brute can... I figured it'd be good for my size tank.

I was not aware of that. Good call klasiksb.
How about putting the brute can along the wall and freeing up that space under the tank. It looks like you would have a lot of room then for the refugium?

cool stock list on rdsb are you going to run phosphate media boforehand so it just is nitrate reducer? I dont like the thought of getting rid of the dsb once it binds all that phosphate

Thought you might like my friends post from another forum danskim :D

I've been waiting on my cjstandpipes for two weeks (actually 5 months, but he forgot to ship them in september), but they still haven't come. Very annoyed... especially when my emails doing get replied to. I wish I would have just built two hofer gurgle busters instead.

I also had to order more reef floor sand because I got too much Aragmax oolitic. That stuff is way more powdery than I remember even after rinsing for a long time. So basically I'll be saving the rest of the oolitic for the rdsb along with the kolorscape I got for cheap.

Sorry to do three posts in a row... I wish I could go back and edit, but oh well.

I calculated the maximum space a refugium could take up while fitting everything else I wanted into the stand as well. 24x24x24 or approximately 60 gallons.

If I made it myself, do you think 3/8" acrylic would be sufficient (with a eurobrace)?

Otherwise a premanufactured tank that is similar is Perfecto's 37 tall or something. Otherwise I can default to my 26 hex or 30 cube. Not ideal, but I can deal with pruning the chaeto often.

I hooked up the booster pump I ordered for my RO/DI unit. I'm having a lot of trouble getting it to the recommended pressure of 65-75 psi. It goes either way over or way under. My house pressure is at 40psi.

I'll try again a little later, but it's pretty aggravating.

Think it'd look funny with half the tank being lit by the PowerModul and the other side with 2x250w MHs (or maybe 1x400w on a light mover)

Ok I think I got the booster to a nice 75psi! Pumping out ro/di faster than before... a nice steady stream instead of a somewhat interrupted stream :)

Any thoughts on the light mover idea?

I let it go up all the way to 115psi and adjusted it from there down to where it is now. It was a little nerve wracking since I don't know how many psi the housings are rated for.

I wish i had experience with this one danskim but i am smaller at the moment. Still keeping an eye on you thread though! :)

Dan,
I thought of doing the light move too, I decided not to go that way. I would supplement the MH with T-5' or VHO's so that when your viewing the tank isn't dark in half of it and lit on the other. That way only the intensity is changing.
