I just got his too. I was told this was a darth maul, but it could be just any random red chalice. It's really bright red with dark purple underneath. Much better in person than the picture.

My Darth Maul Chalice looks different than that. I will get a good pic this evening. Where did you get yours from, mine came from Atlantis Aq. Had it about 3 months and it's slowly growing now.

I got it from World Wide Corals, but like I said, I dunno if it really is a true darth maul. That's just what one of the guys at the store called it.

If it's from WWC, it's "real".

WWC doesn't sell "fake" stuff. A good portion of "Tyree" corals came from WWC. So if they have it, it's the real deal.

However I don't know what a real one looks like. I just know WWC won't job you on a "fake named" coral. It's beautiful - that's all that matters.

What is the real one supposed to look like? I was told by one guy that it was a darth maul, but another guy said they get red chalices in all the time. But my friend bought one too and was told the same thing. So that's why I'm not sure if it's just a random red one. It's beautiful though!!! I wish I could capture its true colors in a photo.

The Darth Maul is not a Tyree chalice. My friend is the one that found the original colony. There are a lot of look a likes around. The darth maul should be deep red and black.

Sorry guys I think only 4-5 people have the lineaged DM and they are all in the Bay Area. The only person to distribute frags was Matt at Reefready.net who sold two tiny frags.

I'm not disputing whether or not it's a nice coral, but obviously there are a lot of imposters around and to my knowledge WWC does not have any frags from me.

Don't know if mines the real deal or not, from what these guys have been posting. Only way it would be is if Meng actually got a frag of the original. But, I like it anyway.

I'll be glad when it grows out, it should look stunning.
