Darwin's Glow Fairy Wrasse (new undescribed species)

Has anybody seen this new undescribed fish in person? I think it looks pretty plain in internet pictures, actually kinda ugly for Fairy Wrasse standards.

But I read it glows red under actinic lighting, which sounds really cool. Can anybody confirm if the red glow is worth it?

I saw a pic of the trio on LA's IG account. I can't comment on the price because I don't know what their going rate is. However, based on the looks alone it's not a fish or a group of fish I'd be willing to sacrifice bioload space for.

Actinic meaning near UV wavelengths. Under the blue/royal blue spectrum, just as it looks in those pictures you've seen.

$150 for one or $450 for a trio of Australian collected fairy wrasse on DD is actually on the lower side considering that they sell Lineatus for $350-$380...each. That tells you they aren't going to be a hot item.

The Trio and TP went quick! An IP specimen is still available if anyone's interested, but I doubt it will be available for long.

Their look is not all that impressive anyway. I was hoping someone saw them in person and can vouch that they look soooo much more brilliant in real life. Oh well.

Haven't seen it in person, but that's a cheap price from that collector. Therefore, it's fair to assume they're available inshore (cheap to collect), probably drab, and very abundant (and probably not endemic to that region).

I would like to see a pic under very white light before buying it.

JMO.

Just saw someone asking about them on fb so here is my response: "I've had one for a couple of months now. I like it. Very peaceful and hardy fish. From day one it ate anything (pellets, flakes, frozen, even goes for the nori) and after settling is constantly out and about. I don't have any good photos of it but now it's settled in I should be able to get some good ones soon."

As for the glow, I have Mars aqua lights and haven't noticed it under blues only, but I also didn't know about it until recently so I'll have to double check next time the white leds go out.

I'll try and get a decent photo of it under whites tomorrow if I can and will have a good look at it under blue leds tomorrow night and let you guys know.

Ok so it has settled in enough to be out all day except for when I am trying to get photos. It's a very hard fish to photograph (small and fast) and I am cr*p with taking photos to begin with.

Pics are all taken with a samsung s7 on auto. This is under mars aqua lights W/B 50% each which looks white to the eye but shows up a bit blue in pics.

And these are the best I could get under white only 100%, changing the lights freaked the fish out a bit so they were darting all over the place.

Under 100% blues only I can't get any photos worthwhile. I wouldn't say the fish "glows" but it does have a red sheen or sparkle to it. But I also don't think there is UV in the mars aqua units and the fish only glows under UV actinic.

This is the only pic I have seen online that really shows what the fish looks like under a 50/50 white/blue LEDs. Way better picture than I could ever take and very accurate to the colours.

Thanks for sharing, MaccaPopEye. Fairy Wrasse are not at all easy to photograph. Are you keeping it with any other Fairies?

No worries. And I'm not keeping any other wrasse yet. I've just started my second tank (180) and currently only have a couple of fish so I am keen to add a few more wrasse.

I mostly source my stock from the same collector so hopefully there are a few other types of wrasse he can get for me. If I don't buy from him I have to pay outrageous shipping to get it to me :o
