The valves DAS uses are a bit strange in that they aren't like a faucet where the more you open them the more flow you get.
The max flow is generally from the 1-3 postion. If you go past that then the valve closes again.

Where can I get fittings for a drain tube from my new and fantastic EX-1? This sure is quiet and is skimming beautifully within 24 hrs of startup.

i would drill a hole in the bottom of the cup to accomodate a john guest hose fitting, then you could put a valve on it as well.
you can get all the parts at home despot/lowes.

Performance wise, it will be the same...

bellow are the specs for the Ex-2 ...as u can see, it's 27.5" tall. the thickness on the DAS skimmers are fine... i can't recall the last time i coulnd't find my football and went and grabbed the old skimmer to toss around...

Orca make good stuff but i'm not sure its worth $75, i mean that is almost 20% more than the das.

Thanks for your input guys. A %19 price increase for zero performance gain and an unnecessary gate valve wasn't worth it to me so I went ahead and ordered DAS EX2 this morning from Petorama. I would have ordered from Orca but they don't have any in stock. The Petorama warehouse said they would ship it out within 2 days of the order being processed so I went with them.

Did anyone ever reply to the guy who asked what the flow rate should be through the EX2?

EX-2 Owners.... what size tank are you using your skimmer on. What type of corals are you keeping and what is your bio load like?

I saw someone list their aquabees at 720lph with a PF4 mod. Stock should be 500 though.

I should clarify. How much air?

I'm looking into a EX-3 skimmer and want to compare to a euroreef and orca.. I need a skimmer and I was going to get a euroreef rc-250 or a orac with three aquabee pumps so will the DAS EX-3 be a better skimmer then those?? it's for a 180g with a 65 sump... thanks for info!!!

I would think the DAS would be about the same, same size, same pumps. The Orca will be the best built, the DAS not quite as well built and the Euroreef the most expensive. I think the Orca and Das with 8 inch body diameter and three aquabees are about the same cost, so I would go with the Orca.

i plan to order one this week also or a custom skimmer from Orca. From what i have read, is it fair to say that aquabee pump is not noisy, also that going with a RC skimmer you don't have to adjust the skimmer when my water level drops 1 or 2 inches? BIG Thanks, I don't want to order a skimmer only to buy another a month later and take a loss.

The other advantage of the DAS vs a Needlewheel like Euroreef is the lack of water noise from the outlet of the skimmer. I am sure that annoying sound is gone
