Guys,

It was nice having been a member of this club!

However - i have upgraded, and am passing this great skimmer on to someone with a 180g setup in Newnan, GA.

Take care, and don't let the Deltec guys bully you around ... they are jerks ;-)

They D.A.S. 2000/1 Pumps
I.E.: non modified 60HZ Euro AquaBee 2000/1 pumps.

Same PUMP as the AquaBee 2000/1, but the volute is not modified, it uses the same volute as the euro model ... same with the impeller ... euro impeller.

so it's just like the deltec and H&S pumps then... I know deltec and euro reef mod their needle wheel does DAS mod theirs?

They use the same pump/needle wheel as the H&S skimmers.

Did anyone ever reply to the guy who asked what the flow rate should be through the EX2?

I use a mj1200 as a feed pump and its about 220gph going through the skimmer.

Lucked into an EX-1. Anyone know where to find manuals?

http://www.deltecusa.us/docs/APSeries.pdf

the DAS and the deltec skimmers are just about the same so you can just use this manual.

i plan to order one this week also or a custom skimmer from Orca. From what i have read, is it fair to say that aquabee pump is not noisy, also that going with a RC skimmer you don't have to adjust the skimmer when my water level drops 1 or 2 inches? BIG Thanks, I don't want to order a skimmer only to buy another a month later and take a loss.
Water level in the sump do not matter with the ex skimmers. Also the only sound you can hear from the skimmer is the air being sucked in.

How many lpm are you guys pulling through the aquabee pumps when the valve is all the way open?
i'm pulling around 480-500 lpm on both my 2001 pumps.

EX-2 Owners.... what size tank are you using your skimmer on. What type of corals are you keeping and what is your bio load like?
i'm running an ex-2 on a 90gal display with a system volume of 130gals. I'm keeping Zoa's and mushrooms. I only have 2 fish and couple shrimps and snails/crabs.

so what das would you put on a 180 with a 65g sump mixed reef tank with a mid to heavy bio load???

Thanks for the info

I have been using a DAS EX1 for about 5 years or so now on my 180 reef and I love it. So feel free to ask me as many questoins as you like.

My LFS sells them for a decent price. I can comment on them getting broken in transit, when DAS ships them over to the US they do a very poor job of packing them and A LOT of them get broken during international transit. My LFS has a 50% damage rate upon receipt. So if any on-line retailers are shipping them out with out first checking them for damage it may not be their fault, though they sould be checking them.

I do push Ozone through my unit as well I also push my effluent water from mmy reactor in my unit.

As far as basic maintenance I clean the air in take once a week, as well I clean the skimmer collection cup every couple of days. About once a qtr I clean the recirculating pump and needle wheel. The only modificatoin I have done is to the collectoin cup, my LFS drilled and installed a fitting so I can drain the skimmate to a seperate container. I take at least a liter of crap a week from my tank.

As far as my tank goes I have a high bio load, 20 fish that I feed about three times a day.

My opinion is that it is an amazing skimmer at a great price, I just can't justify the cost of a Deltec. I know many people that use Deltec's and I get the same performance out of my DAS.

This is my tank, if you have any questions I'll be more then happy to answer them.

a little further up in this thread carlos_fb found some great pics on the unit, but if you read the thread....alot of people are unhappy and they manufacture them with alot of defects.....
That was one year ago though, has anyone come accross this. I do want one, but there is apic of a guy who's skimmer was off level by like 2inches. I wonder how they are manufactured now??

i read that huge thread a couple months ago. A lot of the problem come from shipping. If you run into a problem DAS will get the problem fixed. Even the guy who had the bad skimmer, they overnight him a new skimmer body.

Ocra systems now carry DAS skimmers and if you are worried about having problems just email him.

Nope they aren't the same. They both use aquabee's but deltec further modifies the pump compared to DAS and the impellers are not the same. Check out this link to this thread. Freds compared both a deltec pump and a DAS pump.
