For the EX-3 owners, how much are you liking it? I'm debating if I should go for one, or get that 12" dia. skimmer from Orca with 3 or 4 OR3700's or Aquabees. Either way the pumps will be meshmodded.

The 8" diameter body is pretty much at its limit with 1500lph of air in it. Still, the aquabees push less water with that air, so its less turbulent inside than say... an Oceanrunner. An oceanrunner will cause alot more turbulence for the air it pulls in.

So what would you recommend on a 12" body? I'd really like to have a skimmer with a 12" body for more dwell time. Other than that I'm kinda having my eyes on a EX-3.

A 12" body for dwell time... gotcha... Yeah, the three ORs would be good. Or a single Laguna Max-Flo 2400 mesh-modded... but I think you would need a bubble plate to handle all that output from one pump (120 scfh at about 85 watts though). Its a monster.

Thanks for the input. I sent a quote request to Orca a few hours ago with my specs and so well see how it goes. Today has been my skimmer research day, lol. Went from looking at Deltecs vs H&S's to DAS vs Orca.

I have an EX-3 and absolutely love it! It pulls a nasty amount of filth! Maybe tonight I will close my waste drain on the collection cup to see how long it will take to fill up.

DAS ex-3 would work well for you. I don't think the price increase from going to a custom orca is worth it.

Unless the reason ORCA doesnt list the EX-2 and EX-3s is because they can make it cheaper and sell it cheaper than the $400 and $620 the DAS would cost otherwise.

no the DAS ex2,ex-3 cost a couple hundred dollars less than the same type orca.

Is the rating for these skimmers about right? Im looking for a new skimmer for a 150G tank with a 50G sump. Prolly around 150-160g total water that is mainly sps with a normal fish load. Will the EX2 be enough? TIA!

These skimmers are maxed out on air. No need for a gate valve.

I have one and never touch it.

Here is my latest day and a half's worth, skimmer is running great.

Here's a question for all DAS owners... Is the twist lock flange built good and is the cup easy to remove when fully filled?
