DAS skimmer club

Thought I'd give DAS a try for my quarantine tank and my nano setup. I'm replacing a Tunze DOC 9005 with foam extractor on my 55g q-tank and Deltec MCE600 on my 2.5g / 12g sump nano.

Build quality is decent given the price. The packaging was well done, very professional. The only issue was that I ordered and received no notification that my skimmers shipped or that my order was even processed. The skimmers just showed up after a week or so. Emails to petorama went unreplied.

I finally got my DAS-EX3, hook it up for a test, and one of the pump needle wheel shaft is loose so it slips out of the pump, contacted petorama, so hopefully they will reply. Call the phone number that was sent and no one answer .... Customer support gotta be better than this. Sheeeesh am getting frustrated

How does the shaft slip out of the pump? If the volute cover is in place I am not sure how the shaft can slip out of the pump. Can you describe further?

if you look at the two red rubber ends that holds the shaft in place, you will see that they both have hole bore all the way through, so since the pump is mounted upside down, the loosen shaft will slip right through and the impeller just sit there and shake because n othing is holding it in the center. This is a weird design

Just bought a ex-2 from Aquarium Designs LLC on ebay ... This is for my 125.

I will let everyone know of my experience with this seller, because if good, it may be a MUCH better source than petorama or orca (which neither have replied to my emails) ... at least from what i have been reading

waiting to hear about this guy has anyone bought one from him other then you??

I just got my EX-3 from Aquarium designs(reefdoctor26).It took about a little over a week to get because he was out of town on buisness, but the unit was shipped yesterday and arrived today! He was very considerate in his email replies about his work status last week(as I was a little nervous about spending 600$ and not having the shipping info for a few days). The packaging was some of the best I've seen,I could hardly get it out of the box it was packed so tight. Everything looks great and is running some vinegar in the tub!! This thing is a moose compared to my EX-1 and I am very happy with the seller. I watched his ebay listing for a while and new units came up quickly if the others sold. Not sure how many he has left but he did say that the price was lowered to build his e-bay business. My opinion is that this guy is worth a try, especially with all the bad thing I've heard about pet-o-rama!

Thats good news LB, i must admit that i was worried. I bought it on Friday and paid instantly. I have not heard yet of when it will ship. I am hoping on Wed.

This was a great find on e-bay!

The last email I got the guy said he was driving home 7hrs to ship my skimmer then going back to work.It seemed as if he was just about finished thought as he had been out of town a week longer than expected.I'm sure your in good shape! I didn't get the feeling that he minded answering questions either so ask if you get nervous. This was my fist ebay buy at this amount of money so I was really hesitant but you don't get a good deal if you don't take a chance sometimes.

Could someone with an EX-1 kindly provide the measurement to the bottom of the output t so I can see if this skimmer could go outside my sump?

Thanks!

Will an ex-1 fit in my sump?

Will an ex-1 fit in my sump?

Hi, I'm interested in getting an EX-1 as an upgrade. I would place it in my sump. However, I'm not sure it will fit. The stated size of 15.4" x 7.1" x 23.4" needs more floor space then my 12" x 10" return/skimmer area has. (I have plenty of headroom.) Are the stated measurements larger then reality? Has anyone modded it and put 90 degree elbows on the intake and pump recirc to bend them next to the body and make it smaller then 15.4" long? Is that even a good idea?

If not, do you have any other suggestions? Other recirc skimmer options?

Thanks!

14.5" from the base to the output pipe. You can always make a small box to raise it up if height is not a problem. I had mine on a 20 long and it worked fine.

I ordered the ex-2 and he said he will be out of town but hopes to have it shipped on Monday 3-3. I hope he will at least send out an e-mail letting me know when it does finally ship.

I have room outside of the sump, but I'd much rather get it in sump for overflow/leak/redundancy purposes. Looks like I'll have to keep the EX-1 in mind for my next tank.

cubsare1, when did you buy it? I bought mine on Friday and not heard anything yet in reply to my emails ... i hope mine ships out tomorrow too.
